Who you are
- You have 4-6 years' experience in compliance testing, internal audit, or regulatory compliance at a consumer credit fintech
- You have 2+ years experience within consumer lending
- You have the ability and willingness to comprehend and analyze consumer compliance laws and regulations
- You are proactive with a can-do attitude, taking ownership of resolving issues and driving projects
- You ensure you are helping to find solutions to move forward rather than only highlighting regulatory blockers
- You have excellent cross-functional communication abilities in an international environment

What the job involves
- As our first US Compliance Analyst you will act as a subject matter expert on a diverse range of regulatory compliance issues that apply to Gaia’s US business
- You’ll play a crucial role in guiding our Finance, Sales & Marketing and Product teams and senior managers through the compliance landscape
- Your expertise will help ensure compliance is achieved in the design, deployment and distribution of Gaia’s innovative products
- You will primarily be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of Gaia’s US compliance program
- Executing compliance monitoring, testing, and other reviews in accordance with the established procedures and policies to provide ongoing independent assessment of compliance with applicable rules and regulations
- Managing Gaia’s reporting obligations in relation to its lending products
- Liaising with business leads to create management information and compliance reports
- Providing updates, training and education for management on federal and regional regulatory developments
- Reporting of risks and incidents, with root cause analysis and remediation activity
- Participating in specific risk-related committees to ensure that key actions are captured and followed up by the business as required as well as offering your own advice and suggestions to influence outcomes
- Provide the business with advice and support on a range of compliance issues, including data protection, governance, AML/OFAC, Truth in Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act
- Review marketing materials to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements
- Conduct due diligence investigations on critical suppliers, brand partners, and other entities
- Help expand Gaia’s US footprint by supporting new market entry initiatives by:
- Conducting compliance surveys to understand applicable compliance laws in those states and markets; and
- Supporting applications for consumer credit licenses
Our take
Gaia Fertility was founded in 2020 as a response to founder Nader Alsalim and his wife’s personal difficulty with IVF: it took three clinics in two countries, and £50,000 over four years to conceive. Creating the start-up from a patient experience perspective helps them to solve the challenges of intended parents.
Their approach is to take the guesswork out of trying for a baby. They use a personal predictive technology tool, “Gabi”, which has analysed the data from over one million past IVF treatments over 35 years and can compare it with clients information.
There is some well-reasoned concern for vulnerable parents being sold ‘false hope’ in overseas IVF treatments. However, with only 12% of NHS groups offering the recommended number of IVF cycles, Gaia can offer an alternative, specialised care package.
With substantial funding raised in 2022 from high-profile investors, and a growing focus on fertility health in men and women across society, Gaia is well-positioned to disrupt this market and make a real difference in the lives of intended parents.
