Who you are

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience
A minimum of two years (up to five years) of professional work experience in software development in a team environment
Prior professional work experience with Java is a requirement
Prior professional work experience using code versioning tools (e.g. Git) and Agile development methodology is a requirement
Experience building RESTful or Open API web services
Strong communication skills

What the job involves

As a Software Development Engineer in Expedia Group’s Lodging Supply Connectivity team, you will translate requirements into code, perform testing and debugging tasks, and develop software in conjunction with peers and mentors in a small team environment
You’ll work on a team that builds capabilities (both UIs and APIs) used directly by integrated lodging supply partners, the partner segment providing the supply that generates the majority of EG’s revenue
Expect to become an integral part of the team, communicate regularly with your teammates, and adhere to software engineering processes established by the team. As you gain in experience and knowledge, you will be encouraged to propose improvements to designs and processes
Develop, debug, and modify components of software applications and tools; participate in on-call support of team’s services through PagerDuty rotation
Resolve problems and roadblocks with help from peers and/or managers; follow through on details and drive issues to closure
Actively participate as a key team member in code and design reviews

They enable users to access a wide range of services including airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals, cruises, vacation packages, and various attractions and services via the world wide web and telephone travel agents. Its primary web businesses include Expedia.com, Hotels.com, Hotwire.com, and Egencia.com.

Between 2021 and 2022, Expedia has been selling and merging a list of its sub-brands in a bid to simplify its operations, including Egencia and Classic Vacations. Due to plummeting share prices, mostly in the case of its sub-brands, Expedia has been leveraging its subsidiaries' customer base and merging them into the company’s core brand. Contrasting this move, Expedia has also been partnering with tech start-ups in a bid to make travel more accessible to underserved groups. Becoming Rentable, a travel company for the disabled is one of 12 startups that are part of Expedia Group’s new Open World Accelerator Programme.

What this indicates is Expedia’s shift from buying other travel companies and a move towards enhancing the experience of its preexisting customer base. This move is aiding in a long-term plan for greater long-term traveler loyalty, utilizing Expedia’s vast amounts of data, not just from reviews, but from check-in, cleanliness, communication, cancelations, etc to inform how guests experience a property.
