Who you are
- You’re a seasoned software engineer with over 8 years of experience in software development
- You have at least 2 years of experience in a Staff or equivalent senior engineering role
- You're an expert in Ruby on Rails, comfortable tackling complex problems and delivering robust solutions

What the job involves
- As a Staff Software Engineer on the Registry team at Babylist, you will be at the heart of transforming how expectant parents create and manage their registries
- Leveraging your deep Ruby on Rails expertise, you will drive the modernization of our platform, enhancing features such as checklists, wishlists, and product offers to meet the evolving needs of our users
- You’ll lead the revamp of our user experience, making it simpler and more engaging for parents to manage and organize their registries
- Drive significant improvements to Babylist’s registry platform, enhancing core features and revamping the user experience
- Implement a new design system and modernize our codebase to ensure the platform remains intuitive, reliable, and delightful
- Elevate the technical skills of your team through mentorship, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation
- Critically review technical proposals and guide problem-solving to tackle the right challenges with effective solutions
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed successfully
- Deliver tangible value to our users, helping redefine the baby registry experience for millions of families
Our take
Since its 2011 launch, Babylist has grown into one of the most highly rated baby registries in the US. The difference it offers is that it allows users to include products from any store in their registries. On top of this, the company’s model also focuses heavily on creating informational content, which allows it to generate ad revenue while building customer loyalty.
Originally scaled with fairly low venture funding, Babylist claims half of new parents in the US now use its services. This, given that the baby products industry is worth close to $90 billion, shows the immense growth of the company as well as speaking to the impact it has made in the space.
Babylist has seen strong funding in the past which fuelled projects such as the launch of virtual showrooms, and facilitated the company's expansion further into the market. The company acquired Expectful, a health and wellness tool, in 2023 with the long-term vision to combine the companies into a larger health and wellness media property, that can help people navigate all parts of parenthood from fertility to diapers.
