Who you are
- We hold a high bar for talent at Descript and are looking for a recruiter who is energized by this challenge—someone who seeks out excellence, champions quality over quantity, and understands the long-term impact of every hire
- 5+ years of full-cycle technical recruiting experience, preferably in fast-paced, high-growth environments
- Demonstrated success in hiring for complex technical roles with high hiring standards
- Excellent communication and influencing skills—you know how to navigate relationships with senior stakeholders and push for the best outcome
- Passionate about delivering a remarkable candidate and hiring manager experience
- A strong sense of ownership—you drive processes forward, see challenges as opportunities, and follow through on commitments
- Experience using Greenhouse and sourcing tools like LinkedIn Recruiter; familiarity with ModernLoop is a plus
- A thoughtful team contributor who thrives in collaborative settings and cares about building an inclusive, supportive culture
- Based in or near the San Francisco Bay Area and willing to work from our office on a regular basis
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior Technical Recruiter to join our team and play a critical role in scaling our world-class Engineering organization
- This individual will serve as a strategic partner to hiring managers, driving full-cycle recruitment while identifying top-tier technical talent for highly competitive and hard-to-fill roles
- Beyond sourcing and hiring, you’ll help shape and elevate how we hire: refining processes, advocating for the candidate experience, and ensuring our practices are inclusive, efficient, and forward-thinking
- You'll be joining a deeply collaborative, mission-driven team, and we’re looking for someone who is not just a recruiter, but also a culture builder—someone who leads with empathy, fosters belonging, and is a true team player who lifts others up
- You'll serve as a trusted advisor to engineering leaders, deeply understanding their hiring needs and aligning on recruiting strategies that attract and close top talent
- Own the full-cycle recruitment process: from sourcing and screening through offers, negotiation, and onboarding
- Drive innovative and creative sourcing strategies to build a pipeline of highly qualified, diverse candidates
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to ensure a cohesive and equitable hiring process
- Champion a high-touch candidate experience, treating every interaction as a reflection of our brand and values
- Continuously improve our recruiting practices, tools, and workflows, using data and feedback to inform decisions
- Uphold and raise our talent bar—consistently pushing for rigor, fairness, and thoughtfulness in every hiring decision
- Actively contribute to the culture and cohesion of the recruiting team—sharing knowledge, offering support, and celebrating wins together
Our take
Descript offers podcasters, YouTubers and other content creators a series of modern tools for editing and transcribing audio and video files. It stands out from more traditional editing platforms by using modern tools like natural language processing and AI generated transcriptions.
One of its most newsworthy features is its transcription to audio editing software. Users can edit the AI generated transcription in text format, which is then reflected in the audio itself, and in the speaker's “natural" voice. Founded by Groupon founder and former CEO Andrew Mason in 2017, the company has experienced fast growth, and has already been used across the industry by outlets like the BBC, NPR, VICE, The Washington Post and The New York Times.
The company’s early success and future potential have been underlined in the form of substantial funding. The podcasting industry alone (which encompasses both video and audio) accounted for $22 billion. Descript, which continues to add intelligent and quality-shifting features, is well-positioned to capture this lucrative and growing market.
