Role
Who you are
- 3-6 years of experience in sophisticated commercial/transactional matters. Experience in a wide variety of areas will be considered – corporate transactions, product/technology, and/or marketing
- Experience at top law firm
- Undergraduate Degree and Juris Doctor from top schools
- You’re comfortable owning projects from start to finish with minimal oversight and capable of manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- You embrace projects large and small – yes, even those boilerplate contracts must (unfortunately) be reviewed
- You have a passion for learning and the law and you’re not afraid to step outside of your comfort zone- you will learn new things in this role and need to be comfortable tackling new concepts
- You’re willing to admit when you don’t know the answer, and then work extra hard to figure it out
- You’re able to function in chaos, make decisions quickly, and be confident in your own judgment
- You’re a great communicator who can translate complicated legal concepts into plain English for non-lawyers
- You take your job seriously, but you have a great sense of humor and you value being part of a close-knit team
- Experience with high-growth startups or technology company, or with food, hospitality or ecommerce
- Familiarity with corporate processes like equity programs, fundraising & diligence
What the job involves
- We are looking for a savvy and experienced transactional lawyer to provide business friendly legal solutions while effectively balancing and minimizing risk
- You’ll partner closely with our legal & business teams to negotiate all kinds of commercial agreements, provide legal and regulatory advice, develop & implement processes, and much more
- Provide business-focused, creative solutions to complicated legal problems
- Draft, review and negotiate contracts for all areas of the business, including partnerships, licensing, technology, food related matters, hardware and software, engineering, supply chain and marketing
- Support general corporate, M&A, financing transactions, and corporate governance matters
- Research, understand and explain regulatory issues relating to advertising, food and others
- Review and advise on compliance of marketing assets and product designs
- Develop and provide training sessions for business teams
- Collaborate with business colleagues, compliance team and other lawyers and legal staff
Our take
Food delivered to your door often gets cold and soggy as it travels in a courier's bag from restaurant to home. Using Wonder, customers order food from a mobile app, which is cooked in a truck right outside your door. Their aim is to improve the standard of home-delivered food, both the quality of product – working with world renowned chefs – and the experience itself.
Wonder has received fair criticism surrounding poor environmental consideration, as each kitchen/van sits idle with the engine running whilst food is prepared. A study by the US Department of Energy found that banning the unnecessary idling of personal vehicles would be the same as taking 5 million vehicles off the roads.
In spite of this, Wonder has sustainability strategies involving food sourcing, reducing food waste, sustainable packaging, and, notably, an emissions-neutral fleet. Wonder has received enormous funding bringing it to a valuation of $3.5 billion, and the number of vans distributed across North America is expected to multiply exponentially.
