Our take
Smunch is an online canteen which delivers healthy meals from local restaurants and offers catering services for companies. It was founded by two former senior employees at food delivery giant Delivery Hero, who decided to focus solely on the corporate market.
This has proved to be a sound move as the consumer food delivery market in Germany is a notoriously tough arena, due to strong competition from the aforementioned Delivery Hero and Just Eat, as well as Uber Eats who recently entered the German market.
Smunch’s niche approach appears to be working out well, with high profile customers including Nike, Mercedes-Benz, N26 and Wayfair. After its most recent round of funding which was led by US based Luxor Capital Group, the company looks well-placed to expand beyond Berlin, Hamburg and Munich where it currently operates.
