Our take
Keeping wastewater and stormwater infrastructure in good condition is a task most of us overlook - until there’s a fault. Drain and sewers are things a city can’t really afford to get wrong, but with maintenance costing up to tens of billions of dollars for US cities, it’s increasingly looking like some places can’t afford to get it right either. Luckily, tech advancements like computer vision and artificial intelligence are making their way into sewer management. SewerAI is one of the startups helping overhaul the sector.
SewerAI help improve the accuracy, efficiency, and efficacy of sewer and drain condition assessments. Their product selection is exciting and growing, and includes a web-based infrastructure management platform, automatic condition-detecting, and inspection & stream/review capabilities, many of which leverage computer vision and artificial intelligence to cut down on time and inaccuracies. This top-tier technical innovation is likely to keep them in high demand, and relatively free from would-be competitors.
Half of the US wastewater infrastructure is beyond its useful life, creating major sinkholes and sewage leakages, and it’s expected to become a multi-trillion dollar problem. So it’s a federal problem of the highest urgency, and SewerAI is finally putting a solution in proper reach.
