Who you are
- You are at ease visualizing an experience in the abstract, building consensus, and then driving that vision into concise design deliverables
- 3+ years of delivering design solutions as a UX designer or interaction designer experience
- Have an available online portfolio
- Experience designing and prototyping with tools such as Figma, ProtoPie, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar
Desirable
- A well-crafted portfolio that demonstrates experience creating innovative visual design solutions
- Experience with UX design of complex workflows
- Demonstrates experience crafting design concepts that inform the future vision for a digital product
- Experience art directing motion designers, illustrators, writers and content creators
- Experience working with technical partners for design implementation
- Ability to navigate ambiguity to drive the design cycle and multitask in an fast-paced environment

What the job involves
- The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Systems Design team is part of Amazon's Devices and Services Design organization
- Our central design studio is responsible for the UX of Echo Family Devices, Alexa Mobile, Fire TV, Fire Tablets and more
- Our mission is to bring to life delightful, easy-to-use, and high value experiences for our customers
- As a Visual UX Designer, you will be hands on, working alongside a talented team of designers and technologists, and focused on the digital aesthetics of our future AI Systems
- You will utilize your strong understanding of visual systems and best practices, including layout, color palette, typography, iconography and illustrations
- As a tastemaker and visual storyteller, you will advocate for design excellence and help create meaningful, emotional connection between customers and our products
Our take
Amazon is the world's largest online retailer, and is well-known for its disruption of well-established industries. The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. Acquisitions include Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Market, and IMDb.
More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". Many businesses are now shifting ad dollars to retailers, which before would have been spent with online media platforms. Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. This growth is particularly impressive considering its digital ad rivals (like Snap, Alphabet, and Meta) have suffered declines due to wider macroeconomic factors and Apple's iOS privacy changes.
Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
