Who you are
- 3+ years of experience as a product designer working on cross-functional teams releasing consumer or enterprise products
- An analytical mind and curious soul invested in collaborating on tough problems facing millions of people
- A track record for developing a deep understanding of who you’re designing for and advocating tirelessly for seamless and inclusive experiences
- A systems thinker, who considers how projects connect with other parts of the service, from design systems to user models
- Experience with quick decision-making and rapid iteration based on qualitative and quantitative data
- The ability to simplify problems, embrace constraints, and negotiate trade-offs with product and eng collaborators
- The ability to frame opportunities in terms of metrics and OKRs in order to drive alignment
- A track record for operationalizing lessons, optimizing process, and evolving shared practices
- A love of learning and desire to grow
- Case studies showcasing how you frame problems, gather and act on insights, and ultimately design product experiences
Desirable
- Experience designing products and services in healthcare for patients or for providers
- Experience writing clear, actionable content
- Experience leading or participating in user research and demonstrating the ability to synthesize and incorporate the data
- Working with design systems and even contributing new components to the design system

What the job involves
- We are seeking an experienced product designer to help us launch products that are changing cancer care for millions of people
- In this role, you will evolve our care delivery platform (e.g. EHR, Lab platform) that allows Color’s physicians and care advocates to deliver inclusive care at scale
- You’ll also design experiences that people use to access these essential cancer screening and care services
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other designers on product direction and delivery in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
- Transform insights and requirements into experiences that feel intentional to diverse audiences
- Help develop a scalable human-centered design practice to ensure our products are available, accessible, and inclusive
- Contribute to both a multidisciplinary design team and a company committed to growth, recognition, and celebration
- Understand and incorporate complex regulatory, business, and technical requirements to maintain privacy, accountability, and user control
- Inspire and elevate others through partnership, advocacy, feedback, sharing, and infectious curiosity
- Possible Projects to Contribute to:
- Design critical tools Color care providers will use to operate a clinical practice and deliver sync and async care to patients
- Design inclusive and scalable experiences for delivering cancer screening results to patients
Our take
The genetic testing market is hugely promising, with an annual growth rate of over 10%, it’s expected to grow to a $21 billion industry by 2027. Color’s main offering is genetic testing, an increasingly popular preventative healthcare strategy which informs patients about inherited health risks, and puts them in contact with counselors to work on a response plan.
There are plenty of prominent actors in the marketplace, with 23andMe the most well known. However, Color stands out from its competitors by not working in the direct-to-consumer market, but by partnering up with employers, unions and governments to provide population-wide insights. The company’s client list is impressive, including the National Institutes of Health and the State of California, as well as Salesforce, Levis and Visa.
Thanks to a near $170 million series D funding round at the beginning of 2021, the company’s value hit “unicorn” status as it surpassed $1.5 billion. The company’s future growth will be interesting to watch, with the company announcing a new behavioural healthcare solution in October 2022 alongside the acquisition of mental health platform Mood Lifters. In 2024, Color began working with OpenAI on early detection tools for cancer. These developments are in line with Color's aim to build a wider infrastructure for a tech-based public health approach and indicate a push for a future IPO.
