Role
Who you are
- Generalist HR experience in a stand-alone role or small team - you might have worked in tech startups or scaleups before (nonprofit experience not essential)
- Talent acquisition experience - you've managed end-to-end candidate lifecycles
- An infectious, positive personality with high emotional intelligence and maturity
- Strong knowledge of and the ability to apply US employment law
- Experience in employee relations and providing pastoral care. You can handle ER, recognise patterns and escalate when necessary
- Excellent written and verbal communication with an ability to adapt communication styles depending on audience and required outcome, and strong attention to detail
- Comfort with spreadsheets (nice to have)
- A design eye - you can present information in an engaging way, ensuring consistency, for example with employee handbooks (nice to have)
What the job involves
- Owning existing People/HR processes such as international payroll, performance assessment, employee contracts, international employee handbooks, employee relations and ensuring HR compliance with US employment law. You’ll be the point of contact for employee questions on any of these processes
- Supporting our Senior Talent & People Partner with recruitment. You'll manage the end-to-end candidate lifecycle across a number of our roles, including screening resumes, holding initial interviews, scheduling interviews for hiring managers and stewarding candidates through their individual recruitment process
- Managing people projects. A big focus for us this year is embedding high performance in our teams. You’ll play an integral role in helping to decide how we do this, then implementing new processes/procedures
- Providing pastoral support for our US-based staff, helping and coaching them through effective working challenges, in particular in the context of working in a distributed team, and escalating where necessary
- Bringing our culture to life in San Francisco, e.g. by building a great office environment for those who use it, with plenty of ‘surprise and delight’ moments
- Supporting the team to embed DEI and build an inclusive culture across all aspects of the employee journey
- Supporting our Senior Talent & People Partner, who manages our employees’ first 3 months at Founders Pledge. You’ll help to set new employees up for success by handling contracts, HR and technical onboarding, and making our new joiners feel a part of the team, no matter where in the US they’re based
- Facilities management and ad-hoc basic IT support. You’ll make sure that our office meets employee needs, health and safety requirements, and aligns with our values. You'll also help colleagues with basic IT requests, e.g. resetting passwords, troubleshooting or dealing with broken hardware
Our take
Founders Pledge is a community of entrepreneurs who have committed to leveraging their success for social good. Members pledge to give a small percentage of their personal proceeds to the charities of their choice following an exit, and the community also meets up for dinners, forums and talks exploring the latest news at the intersection of charity and technology. The not-for-profit company thus helps bridge the gap between the private and social sector, encouraging entrepreneurs to apply the same rigour and thoughtfulness to their philanthropy as they do to their businesses.
Founded in 2015, Founders Pledge's approach has already proven highly successful: over $10 billion has been pledged by just over 1,800 members. Furthermore, since the company's operations are funded by a separate group of founders, philanthropists, and institutions, it guarantees that 100% of donations goes straight towards causes that matter.
Going forwards, Founders Pledge's focus must be on maintaining the strength of its community. Ensuring entrepreneurs stay engaged with their social impact efforts will be paramount to the continued achievement of Founders Pledge's goals, but if it can do this, there is no reason why the company should not be able to continue its altruistic mission well into the future.
