Company mission
To help students find accommodation quickly and easily.
Role
Who you are
- You are an experienced product leader, who has worked to deliver great products in collaboration with engineering, sales and customer teams
- You’ve had a strong impact on product leadership, and been able to shape processes to improve the team’s delivery - you can point to how you achieved this and are keen to do it again
- You know product craft well and can advocate for best practices, applying them pragmatically to existing organisations. You’ve built or reshaped product practices from a low base, and are energised by doing that without needing established structure around you
- You know how to grow people’s capabilities in their product craft, supporting hands-on to show what good looks like
- You encourage teams to own their work long term, treating security and performance as requirements rather than afterthoughts
- You’re comfortable influencing senior stakeholders and holding a position when the evidence supports it, including saying no to work that doesn’t serve the strategy
What the job involves
- Leadership
- Line managing product managers & senior designer. You'll run regular 1:1s, set clear expectations, give feedback, and work with each person to develop their skills and progress their careers
- Hiring and onboarding new team members. You'll help build job specs, interview candidates, and make sure new starters are set up for success
- Product culture
- Growing our product practices as a scale-up organisation, setting clear lines of communication and advocating for iterative design & development
- Building relationships with service teams, helping stakeholders understand technical constraints, and finding ways to make collaboration smoother
- Directing the product roadmap in conjunction with the management team, taking feedback from other departments and communicating priorities
- Helping product managers keep everybody up to date with the state of their projects, whilst managing their own time and reducing context switching
- Removing bottlenecks - technical, process or organisational - that slow the company down
- Creating visibility for your team's work - whether that's presenting at engineering roundtables, contributing to company-wide updates, or helping team members showcase what they've built and learned
- Hands on
- Directly product managing one area, using this as a guiding light to shape your team
- Joining customer calls with success and sales teams to understand user challenges first-hand and shape potential solutions
- Writing requirements documents, liaising with engineering leads, and advising design processes
- Making sure delivery ownership is clear across squads, working with engineering leads to monitor and act on product performance
- Scoping new projects realistically, risks are identified early, and commitments are credible
- Solving problems with ambiguity during design, managing trade-offs and setting reasonable expectations on what to deliver now versus later
Application process
- Apply here, if your experience seems relevant we'll invite you to submit a questionnaire to understand your experience in line with the role description (Scored by our hiring team) (~20-30 mins of your time)
- First round: Knowledge, skills and experience interview with Stuart + Mike (CTO) to learn a little more about each other, share more about the role and company and sense-check knowledge and skills needed in the role (~60 mins, remotely online)
- Second round: Behavioural interview with Mike/Stuart and Andrea (our people person) to learn more about contribution in previous roles, company and culture (~60-90 mins, remotely online)
- Final round interview. A short case study presentation that you'll have the opportunity to prepare ahead of showcasing it in an in-person interview with Stu, Andrea, Mike and one of our founders (Tom or Michael) (~60-90 mins, in person)

Our take
StuRents enable students to find accommodation. Having been established in 2008, the company has grown organically since then and now lists over 700,000 rooms in over 100 towns and cities across the UK.
Unlike other rental platforms, like Rightmove and Zoopla, StuRents doesn't just allow agencies to use their platform. Instead, they also accept private landlords and purpose-built student accommodation operators, ensuring a broad range of options are made available to house-hunting students. Ultimately, this has levelled the playing field for these groups to compete for student tenants.
Moreover, StuRents distinguishes itself further by offering an end to end property management software (Concurrent.co.uk) to facilitate the full range of operational needs, such as contract signing, rent collection, referencing and deposit protection.
The data generated by the marketing and end-to-end services also allows StuRents to offer industry-leading research and data insights to institutional clients such as banks, developers and real-estate investors.
Overall, this approach has successfully enabled StuRents to stand out from both the bigger, more established competitors as well as the increasing number of specialist property platforms. Its success is supported by the fact it is now the leading rental platform in the student letting market.
