Hardware Security Engineer, Flock Safety

• 2+ years of experience of device hardware experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Familiarity with source control solutions such as (git/Github/Gerrit)
• Familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (DevOps)
• Beginner's experience with C/C++ and Kotlin/Java, specific experience with Android Frameworks and System Java preferred
• A passion for Android OS and embedded chipsets
• Some Familiarity with both Android SDKs and NDKs
• An understanding of security controls in the Android/Linux ecosystem
• Experience with SELinux
• A desire to learn and grow in hardware security engineering
• Ability to conduct code and security architecture reviews

Desirable

• We are looking for a Hardware Security Engineer to help work on unique and interesting problems on Flock hardware
• This role will work on the Product security team and help the team to enforce robust security controls in Flock devices including video based license plate readers and drones
• Hardware security at Flock is deep and complex
• Flock manages its own large fleet of devices including gunshot detection, license plate reader, and drone devices
• Hardware security engineers at Flock help to construct defenses on all of these platforms and have the unique opportunity to work on esp32 and Android based devices helping our engineering peers to shore up security controls from supply chain, to physical hardware, and delivery to cloud
• Work with device hardware and software teams to:
• Implement fixes for security vulnerabilities
• Develop and implement defensive security measures
• Develop, review, test, and debug Android APIs and system services
• Assist with designing strategic innovations for security architecture
• Participate in security projects designed to improve the security posture of the Flock device ecosystem
• Help with the organization and execution of hardware specific vulnerabilities. Work to track them from start to finish line of implementation and maintain state
• The First 30 Days
• Gain familiarity with Flock’s processes and culture
• Familiarize yourself with the company, team, and internal systems
• Build relationships with key stakeholders and understand their pain points
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of current internal systems and processes
• The First 60 Days
• At the end of 60 Days, you have taken ownership, have a good understanding of our hardware primitives and probably have some opinions on what should be our next steps in maturity
• 90 Days & Beyond
• At the end of 90 Days, you are rolling. You now own and are collaborating on Security projects independently. You have implemented a feedback loop with Engineering/Security stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement & open communication on project outcomes
