Who you are

5+ years of experience in Kotlin, or Java programming with developing high-quality production software
Experience in other parts of our stack is a plus - Swift, Objective-C, React Native
Experience building maintainable and testable code bases, including API design and unit testing techniques
Experience with multithreading programming and mobile memory management
Experience in API design, performance optimization, client architecture, and tools in the mobile space
Have a deep and up-to-date knowledge of Android design principles and patterns
Value being a great team player, mentor, and communicator in a diverse and distributed team

What the job involves

Come join the Gaia GPS team at Outside as an Android Engineer. In this role, you will build software for some of the wildest adventures on earth and help people explore the backcountry with cutting-edge data and tools
You will work closely with our innovative team of Android and iOS Developers. This team has recently shipped new features such as map packs, offline routing, turn-by-turn navigation, and Android Auto integration to our passionate users
Cracking some of the most complex spatial challenges in the Android app ecosystem
Expanding the Gaia GPS community and their ability to empower their peers
Collaborating with the larger Outside engineering team to bring 40+ years of content to life
Building applications that excel at streamlining data storage, battery life, and reliability
Collaborate with Product, Design, and other Engineering teams members on a cross-functional team
Work closely with our Maps team to delight our customers with beautiful and interactive maps
Lead the development of robust and scalable features on the Gaia GPS Android app, ensuring code quality, performance optimization, scalability, and maintainability
Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to the development team
