Who you are

5+ years’ experience in finance, preferably at a high-growth startup or VC-backed company
Strong financial modeling skills and fluency in tools like Excel, Google Sheets, Notion
Experience with fundraising processes, due diligence, and working with investors
Knowledge of UK SEIS/EIS schemes, startup tax, and financial governance
Clear communicator with ability to present to both investors and internal stakeholders
Comfortable operating lean with limited resources and working on equity + deferred pay
Passionate about impact-driven business, climate tech, or conscious consumerism
Bonus: Exposure to subscription models, marketplaces, or data-as-a-service

Desirable

Lead financial modeling, forecasting, and runway planning for MVP and beyond
Manage and track cash flow, budgets, and use of funds across all departments
Own investor-facing financial decks, data rooms, and diligence processes
Support SEIS/EIS filings and equity management (incl. cap table and options pool)
Oversee basic accounting, invoicing, and reporting systems until finance team is built
Advise on commercial structures for monetization (subscriptions, affiliate, insights)
Coordinate with legal/tax advisors to ensure global financial compliance (UK + UAE)
Contribute to fundraising strategy and support with pitch prep and investor negotiations
Ensure financial discipline, especially during early-stage experimentation and growth

What the job involves

Help us build the financial engine behind the world’s first sustainability-powered consumer platform
As CFO, you’ll be responsible for setting up, structuring, and scaling the financial strategy of Sumus from MVP to Series A. You’ll work closely with the CEO and founding team to ensure we’re investment-ready, compliant, and financially healthy — while also driving investor conversations and building trust across all stakeholder levels. Support the company with financial forecasts and solutions for upcoming markets such as the UK and US for the first five years
Forecast and analyze new revenue models, review all financial data the company has so far to support funding rounds, and accurately evaluate the company's worth
Amend financial models according to investor feedback and assist with investor meetings during funding rounds
Work closely with the CEO and other team members to provide financial analysis and insights to inform strategic decisions
Provide regular financial reports to the board of directors and investors, ensuring transparency and accuracy
Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and laws
Manage and oversee financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and cash flow management
Work collaboratively with other teams, including marketing, sales, and technology, to ensure financial alignment and optimization
Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to finance and sustainability
