Who you are

Minimum of 5+ years of experience in web development, preferably with Node.js, React, Redux, and TypeScript
Strong technical leadership skills
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Strong understanding of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Experience with back-end development using Node.js, Fastify, and GraphQL
Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker

This is an opportunity for an experienced Staff Engineer responsible for maintaining our web platform for diners
This individual is an experienced technical leader who is passionate about building great products and elevating the engineering craft
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical expert who can dive deep into complex challenges and provide strategic direction and help drive our shared platform into the future
Mentor and guide team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment
Work across the company by developing relationships with other teams to ensure the right architectural and technical direction moving forward
Design, develop, and maintain scalable and high-performance web applications using Node.js, React, Redux, Fastify, GraphQL, and TypeScript
Design, develop, and maintain tools and utilities that improve the developer experience, such as build automation, code generation, linting, formatting, and testing frameworks
Collaborate with developers across teams to understand their needs and pain points, and develop solutions to streamline their workflows and increase productivity
Contribute to the improvement of development processes, best practices, and coding standards to ensure a consistent and efficient development environment
Contribute to the development and maintenance of our infrastructure components, including Docker, Grafana, ELK Stack
Write clean, testable, and well-documented code following best practices and coding standards
Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other team members
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner
Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends

Our take

OpenTable was one of the earliest innovators in the online reservation space, setting up shop in 1998 as a tool to enable restaurants to take bookings online. Rather than charging consumers for the service, OpenTable generates revenue via a monthly subscription and reservation fee from businesses.

Today, the platform is used by tens of thousands of restaurants around the world and seats over 1 billion diners per year. The company was acquired by Booking Holdings – the world's largest travel company – for $2.6 billion in 2014, and remains a subsidiary of the group to this day.

OpenTable is the dominant player in the restaurant reservation software category, with an impressive 45% market share, but does face increasing competition from platforms like Resy, Tock, TableAgent, and many more. Nonetheless, this market leader has garnered an impressive reputation, and there is nothing to say it won't hold on to the dominance it has earned into the future.
