Role
Who you are
- 3–5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience building and operating backend systems in a production environment
- Strong fundamentals in system design, data modeling, and performance optimization
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or similar)
- Familiarity with distributed systems, service-oriented architecture, and cloud environments (AWS preferred)
- A track record of delivering high-quality, maintainable code in a collaborative environment
What the job involves
- The Trust Platform team builds and maintains the systems that orchestrate fraud detection, identity verification, and regulatory reporting across all Remitly products. Our mission is to keep customers safe and Remitly compliant while ensuring fast, reliable, and user friendly identity verification
- As an SDE II on Trust Platform, you will develop systems that are foundational to Remitly's business. You'll contribute to initiatives that improve KYC/identity verification, regulatory screening, fraud detection, and compliance reporting, ensuring these services are scalable, fault-tolerant, and reusable across products
- You'll work closely with engineering managers, product, and analytics partners to provide high-impact features and platform capabilities that keep Remitly compliant while providing a seamless customer experience. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager of Trust Orchestration Platform
- Contribute to the design and development of core Trust Platform services
- Deliver reliable, secure, and performant backend systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on business, regulatory, and technical requirements
- Own features end-to-end, from design to deployment and ongoing operation
- Grow your technical skills through mentorship, code reviews, and exposure to complex system design

Since its inception in 2011, Remitly has focussed on helping immigrants to send money across the world faster, cheaper and easier. The company has grown exponentially since then and now operates across multiple continents. Remitly put down most of its success on putting its customers first.
The emergence of digital banks with low transaction fees cross-country has increased competition in a space where Remitly was dominant for many years. The company must continue to innovate its product to ensure it is the go-to place for these types of payments.
That said, Remitly continues to partner with exciting companies and improve their service for loyal customers. The company is setting its sights beyond its core remittance service, such as through the introduction of Passbook, an app that allows customers to access digital banking through a partner bank.
