Who you are
- Passionate about supporting healthy foods that don’t squander the Earth’s natural resources
- 8+ years experience, ideally across people and recruiting
- Demonstrated experience building the people function as a team of one
- Experience managing benefits, policies/procedures, compensation structures, performance management, onboarding/offboarding, labor and employment law
- Proven track record of building high-quality teams, ideally (but not necessarily) in the biotech, food tech, or climate tech space
- Experience partnering at all levels of the business to advise and coach stakeholders
- Results oriented and can dream up the idea but also see it through or know when to pivot. Relentlessly resourceful and enjoy a dynamic environment
- Team player who is constantly looking for ways to help and develop others
What the job involves
- Reporting directly to the CEO, the experience you bring in recruitment, talent development, engagement programs, total rewards and process will empower this growing team of food- and environment-loving employees to develop and launch category-defining products
- We are headquartered in San Mateo, California, and are looking for someone who can be onsite approximately 40% of the time
- Lead recruitment of top talent across all of the organization utilizing strategic sourcing initiatives, driving hiring process optimization, recruitment marketing and employment brand and ensuring the utmost positive candidate experience. Define a strategy for reaching diverse talent pools. Think ahead of the plan and focus on the talent pipeline for the future
- Lead total rewards strategy, administration and communication. Develop and iterate on a performance, engagement and talent management strategy and program to drive business success while growing, developing and recognizing team members
- Ensure that the voices of our employees are being heard as we grow
- Lead employee and manager development
- Prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion across all areas of people operations, with extra focus on how we build and lead inclusive teams
- Continue to build upon new hire onboarding to ensure all new team members are provided with tools, resources and relationships to be set-up for success
- Manage all HR compliance
- Develop an overall talent roadmap for scale and growth including HR tech stack roadmap
- Be a thought partner to our leaders and to our team from org design, leadership development, employee relations, talent strategy, and beyond.

Our take
Cooking oil is a staple of every kitchen, but the most commonly used vegetable oil presents a range of environmental and health problems. They are usually high in unhealthy trans fats and polyunsaturated omega-6 fats, and the crops used to produce them produce up to 25 times more carbon emissions than most crops.
Zero Acre Farms produces a healthy and sustainable alternative to vegetable oil, differentiating itself by containing heart-healthy and heat-stable monounsaturated fat instead of trans and polyunsaturated fats. By being produced through fermentation, the company uses 85% less land, emits 86% less Co2, and requires 99% less water than traditional cooking oils.
Whilst it will inevitably be difficult for Zero Acre Farms to replace the commonly used vegetable oil, the company has been smart to tap into the growing market of consumers conscious about their consumption of environmentally damaging oils. The company also claims to have ensured its product has a neutral taste and a high smoke point, tackling challenges commonly found in alternative cooking oils.
