Role
Who you are
- We are open to both full stack or back end focused candidates
- At least 3-4 years of hands-on software development experience, building (micro)sites
- Strong understanding of web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js)
- Experience building responsive and accessible web applications
- Knowledge of browser performance optimization and security best practices
- Familiarity with RESTful API design and consumption
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on projects, while being comfortable collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers, to define, design and ship new features in a remote environment
- Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, as well as using CI/CD system
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrated ability to make tough technical decisions based off of requirements, constraints, and trade-offs
Desirable
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, with 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience with Node.JS and Typescript
- Strong understanding of database management, object-oriented programming, and web application development
What the job involves
- Headspace is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer, Web to join its Paysumer Team and be responsible for building out great partner experience and expanding access to and monetizing the audiences that Headspace can serve via D2C and Health Plan Channels
- As part of this team, you'll be tasked with prototyping, architecting, and executing on the creation of our enterprise platform, and be integral in the platform's continued growth
- Being on the engineering team, you’ll be working on a product that impacts more than 65M users
- You will help us bring new features to life to meet our mission, while also helping push our platform to newer technologies as we embrace the cutting edge
- Design and develop high-volume, low-latency applications for mission-critical systems
- Build web apps and APIs, primarily on Typescript/Node.js for our AWS-based services
- Write well designed, testable, performant, and efficient code
- Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle, from collaborating with product stakeholders, writing tech specs & RFCs, to feature release and operations
- Produce specifications and determine operational feasibility
- Work with product and engineering teams to release services that operate at our high scale
- For candidates with a primary residence in the greater SF and LA areas, this role will follow our hybrid model. You’ll work 3 days per week from our office
Our take
The world is facing a growing mental health crisis. In 2022, the US saw the proportion of the population with an acute anxiety, depression or other mental health need grow from 20% to 40%.
In 2021, Headspace and Ginger finalised a $3bn merger to form Headspace Health, an accessible mental health platform. It is determined to democratize mental healthcare, and its brands are already being used by over 100 million people and more than 4,000 enterprises including Starbucks, Adobe and Paramount.
There is clearly a need for virtual mental healthcare, and the market is growing increasingly crowded, with competitors including His & Hers Health. However, Headspace Health sets itself apart with its rapidly growing portfolio of services, added in part through strategic acquisitions such as that of AI health firm Sayana in 2022. It is now focusing on international expansion, offering its services directly to companies in the UK for the first time.
