What the job involves
- A Data Architect at UME will design and build leading-edge data solutions. They will curate data flows across the organisation, working closely with our Engineering and Product teams to shape and design new products and services that fit into an overall data architecture
- The Data Architect will work in our Enablement Team, a cross functional, agile team that guides our product teams in acquiring new knowledge and capabilities. The Enablement Team is composed of various specialists who help teams to understand and comply with organisation wide technology constraints
- Working with a variety of colleagues, including Software Architects, Product Owners and the Engineering community, ensuring the best data solutions are delivered
- Researching, testing and providing informed guidance on tooling, practices frameworks and other ecosystem choices which help product teams to acquire and evolve capabilities
- Guiding our product teams to define and standardise their data architecture, data models and meta-data so that we can effectively use them to become a more data led business
- Run proofs of concepts and provide suggestions around tooling to simplify and help UME better manage data
- Effectively upskilling product teams to bring them up to speed with new tools and techniques

It has also formed major strategic partnerships to improve the product, one example being with United Healthcare Group, allowing medical screening requests to be sent electronically. This further shortens the underwriting decision-making process for users of the platform.
Its focus on innovation and strategic partnerships has yielded success, generating significant buzz in the insurance sector and more than 50% year-on-year growth. Moving ahead it will continue to develop its product, doubling down on AI-augmented decision-making tools to further increase the efficiency of the underwriting process.
