Role
Who you are
- 5+ years in People Operations, ideally in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Deep experience with HR tools (Sequoia, Culture Amp, Gusto, or equivalents)
- Strong understanding of benefits, compensation benchmarking, LOA policies, and compliance requirements across multiple U.S. states
- Proven ability to manage payroll and HRIS systems with accuracy and confidentiality
- Excellent project management and communication skills
- A systems thinker who brings structure, clarity, and proactivity to ambiguous environments
What the job involves
- This role will oversee the full scope of People Operations—including benefits, compensation, compliance, payroll, HR systems, onboarding, offboarding, and more. You’ll be a strategic thought partner to the Head of People and a hands-on operator helping build the infrastructure that enables our team to thrive
- Oversee day-to-day benefits administration, liaising with brokers, enrollment platforms, and carriers
- Guide new hires through benefits onboarding and enrollment
- Lead open enrollment, including Sequoia PRX configurations, employee communications, and completion reporting
- Own the annual benefits renewal strategy in collaboration with the Head of People
- Maintain accurate, accessible benefits documentation on Confluence
- Oversee 401(k) administration, compliance, and monthly submissions
- Manage all Leaves of Absence (LOAs) end-to-end (parental, medical, etc.)
- Review and approve Health & Wellness reimbursements in Brex
- Benchmark compensation annually using tools like Radford, Mercer, and Sequoia
- Lead our annual compensation review cycle—merit, market adjustments, spot bonuses, and promotions
- Administer Sequoia’s Compensation Module to support a smooth planning process
- Monitor external market trends and recommend adjustments to maintain competitiveness
- Work with external counsel to support sponsored employees
- Analyze and communicate immigration risk and timelines to business leaders
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to incorporate immigration into hiring strategy
- Own our compliance calendar: EEO-1, ACA, CA Pay Data, nondiscrimination testing, and more
- Support audits in partnership with Legal and Finance
- Ensure company-wide completion of annual compliance training
- Maintain HRIS and People platforms (Sequoia, Culture Amp, etc.)
- Build dashboards and tools to support People analytics
- Evaluate and implement new systems and integrations
- Maintain DEI dashboards and provide reporting to stakeholders
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll in partnership with Sequoia One
- Process off-cycle payments, garnishments, and terminations per state laws
- Oversee monthly contractor payments via Gusto
- Respond to employee inquiries and support payroll audits
- Drive continuous improvement of People Ops systems and processes
- Manage onboarding/offboarding workflows with excellence
- Design and update employee policies, ensuring compliance with evolving laws
- Support performance and compensation cycles alongside People Business Partner
- Coordinate onboarding logistics: documentation, IT, systems access, and culture integration
- Conduct 1st-week and 30-day check-ins with new hires
- Handle all offboarding tasks, including systems deactivation, final pay, COBRA communications, and exit interviews
Our take
According to the UN, in order to avoid climate disaster the world needs to both reduce carbon emissions and actively remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. Heirloom develops a technology to handle the latter, using limestone to capture carbon directly from the air and permanently store it - and in doing so delivering high-quality carbon credits for businesses to purchase.
Initially, the company stored captured carbon in underground deposits, but it now also boasts the ability to sequester CO₂ into concrete. This process, which was developed alongside its partner, CarbonCure, actually strengthens the concrete, which can then be used in all types of construction projects.
Crucially, because limestone is so widely available - and because the capture process is a chemical reaction - the process requires minimal land and energy. This allows the company to remain relatively low-impact in its operations, making its carbon removal credits more valuable. This has contributed to the achievement of Microsoft purchasing 315,000 metric tons of carbon removal from the company, in one of the biggest deals of its kind to date.
