Role
Who you are
- Proven experience as a Backend Engineer or similar role, with 5+ years of experience
- Skilled at writing clean, performant and testable code in typed languages
- Experience in architecting, designing, and building distributed systems
- Familiarity with a range of technologies, databases and cloud stacks (AWS) and previous experience with Infrastructure as Code
- Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and customer-facing stakeholders

- We’re looking for a skilled Senior Backend Engineer passionate about creating outstanding user experiences on top of HIVED’s emission-free parcel delivery network
- As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be an integral part of the team, responsible for the full software development lifecycle—from discovery and design to deployment and monitoring
- You will have a tangible impact on growing HIVED's backend in a rapid yet sustainable fashion
- HIVED will depend on you to ensure our systems are reliable, maintainable, and scalable for both internal and external users
- You will solve problems in a creative but pragmatic way and bring a positive attitude to everything you do
- You'll thrive in a collaborative, high-performing environment that values curiosity, ownership, and continuous improvement
- You'll be part of a cross-functional team working closely with software engineers, product managers, and UX designers
- The Customer Experience Squad's mission is to revolutionise the parcel delivery experience for both Senders and Recipients
- You'll build backend systems that power recipient-facing features such as live tracking pages and real-time notifications, as well as a scalable platform that enables business customers—from small businesses to large enterprises—to integrate with HIVED seamlessly
- Your work will play a key role in delivering best-in-class customer experiences and developing HIVED's competitive advantage through technology
- Design, implement, and maintain a scalable backend architecture to power HIVED’s customer-facing products and tools
- Plan and lead projects along with other software engineers, product managers and UX designers
- Maintain and optimise existing infrastructure, including third-party integrations that enhance the customer experience
- Shape the engineering culture at HIVED by scaling processes, tools, and standards, while sharing knowledge with junior team members
- Participate in the on-call rota, ensuring system reliability

Our take
Parcel delivery currently relies on fossil-fuel powered vans for the most part — and they pollute the air we breathe, emit large amounts of CO₂ and congest our cities. At the same time, customer service is notoriously poor, unethical business practices are rampant, and the technology is outdated. HIVED offers an alternative: 100% electric delivery, cutting emissions by up to 76%.
The company's technology is so efficient, it can match – or sometimes even be cheaper – than the current high-emission carriers. HIVED has fundamentally set itself apart from larger competitors by cutting their emissions by 76%, which will be a significant advantage as the UK is witnessing a green economic boom in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The industry's expansion grew to $141.05 bn globally in 2025, which will undoubtedly be underpinned by a push towards sustainability. HIVED is well-positioned to capitalise on this, particularly if it can maintain its current high standards off the back of its impressive 2025 Series B investment round.
