Role
Who you are
- Experience leading (or playing a key leadership role in) the People function within a startup or scaleup environment
- Experience building lean people systems from scratch or scaling them as a company grows
- Experience in talent or recruitment operations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience leading L&D, internal comms or company-wide engagement work
- Experience managing people budgets and partnering with finance on headcount planning, compensation and people-related spend
- Familiarity switching between strategic thinking and hands-on implementation
- Strong task triage and delegation skills
- Experience supporting the development of strong people managers
- Experience managing payroll
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law, compliance and HR best practices
- The ability to act as a thought partner to the leadership team on people issues
Desirable
- Career framework design, compensation benchmarking and progression planning
- Managing a small People or Talent team (e.g. 2–4 people)
- Scaling from Series A to B or from 50 to 100+ people
- The biotech industry, or working closely with technical teams

- You’ll be the most senior People leader at Hoxton Farms, responsible for both day-to-day delivery and long-term vision
- From strategy to execution, you’ll work closely with the leadership team to shape our people systems, champion culture and enable every team member to thrive
- As our Head of People, you will be responsible for scaling and improving every part of our people experience: from hiring and onboarding to performance, progression, L&D, and offboarding
- You’ll guide the team through growth, lead on cultural strategy and ensure we’re building a high-performing environment

Hoxton Farms' fundamental goal is to produce cost-effective cultivated fat to help replace meat on every plate, in every recipe, in every corner of the world. It does this by bringing together mathematical modelling and machine learning with synthetic and computational biology skills.
Animal fat is the secret to delicious food, and plant oils alone can't replace it: some are bad for the environment - like coconut or palm oil - and most lack the flavour and properties of animal fat. Hoxton Farms solves this issue by growing real animal fat without the animals.
Starting with only a few cells, Hoxton Farms grows purified animal fat in reactors to create an ingredient that is sustainable, cruelty-free and delicious; while tasting, cooking, and looking like real animal fat. This provides the world with a clean source of animal fat, helping power the transition to a more ethical and sustainable future.
The current techniques for culturing animal cells are expensive, but Hoxton Farms' mathematical and computational modelling dramatically reduces the cost of cell culture, meaning that its product is cost-effective at scale. The company has seen significant funding over the years, the latest of which is helping to build its pilot production facility in Shoreditch, as well as further develop its customer partnerships to demonstrate the value of its offering.
