Role
Who you are
- 3–5+ years of experience in Program Management, Product Operations, or a similar role in a fast-paced environment
- Program Management Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to own multiple project workstreams end-to-end with limited oversight
- Technical Literacy: Proficient level understanding of technical products and services. Comfortable participating in and providing value to cross-functional technical discussions
- Analytical Skill: Able to interpret data and metrics to measure success and identify improvements. Knowledge of SQL or data visualization tools is a plus
- Communication: Able to summarize a program area clearly and concisely to varying audiences with little notice. Leads effective meetings and contributes meaningfully to team discussions
- Regulatory/Compliance Interest: Experience or strong interest in navigating complex, shifting regulatory landscapes
- Accountability: High sense of urgency and ownership over both personal goals and shared team outcomes
What the job involves
- As a Level 4 Associate Program Manager, you will independently own the strategy and execution for several end-to-end projects or program areas
- You aren't just following a checklist; you are driving the delivery of complex regulatory solutions
- You will be responsible for organizing regulatory problems into actionable milestones, balancing business interests with legal requirements, and maintaining a proficient understanding of the technical services involved
- You will lead cross-departmental collaboration, building alignment between technical and non-technical partners to ensure Lyft remains compliant and competitive
- Strategy & Execution: Independently drive projects of small to medium scope and complexity from ideation to delivery. Manage initiatives, KRs, and key metrics to ensure program health
- Technical Domain Knowledge: Build and leverage a strong technical foundation of Lyft services, owning updates to and roadmaps for internal services. Facilitate discussions with technical teams to understand trade-offs around decisions
- Operational Improvement: Improve existing processes and mitigate delays in execution. Ensure the right projects are being prioritized based on business need and urgency
- Actionable Recommendations: Assemble and present recommendations to leadership. Use data and insights to identify pain points and opportunities for the driver experience
- Data & Insights: Use data to track performance and support your recommendations. Share regular updates on progress and roadblocks, involving others when necessary to restore customer experience
- Leadership & Collaboration: Build an effective project core team and mentor team members. Foster a supportive work environment where you invite and value all voices
Our take
Lyft has aimed for consistent growth, making sure to pitch itself as a more reliable and friendly ride-sharing option than its main competitor, Uber. Uber has a greater market share and operates globally, but Lyft hopes to compete by its focus on ride-sharing over Uber's more diversified business approach and as a more rider-friendly and greener alternative to Uber.
Operating only in the USA and Canada, Lyft is in a position of being less affected by global events than Uber but also more vulnerable to local conditions. As an example, while it doesn't face the regulatory hurdles around employment rights that Uber does, it is unable to balance out the cost of the unusually expensive US auto insurance across its operations.
In 2022, Lyft acquired PBSC Urban Solutions, a bike-share equipment and technology supplier, allowing Lyft to compete in new verticals and reaffirming its commitment to green transportation. It has also trialled and launched Lyft Assisted, where drivers help passengers from their door into the car to get to medical appointments. These developments chime well with Lyft's unique selling point as a friendlier and more environmentally aware ride-sharing app, whilst the acquisition of European competitor Freenow could add 6 million new riders to its platform in 2026.
