Role
Who you are
- 5+ years in product management or equivalent experience, with significant time spent leading consumer facing products
- Natural leadership and ability to make things happen. You manage project ambiguity, complexity, and interdependencies in an organized and structured way, and you are able to define and analyze metrics that inform the success of your products
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to leverage data to inform product decisions and strategy
- Possess strong business judgment, with the ability to balance end-consumer and partner needs
- Excellent judgment and thoughtfulness about the dynamics of the product ecosystem
- Strong communication skills and intuition for communication strategy at every level -- within teams, within the company, to users, and other audiences
- Ability to conceptualize, prioritize and lead multiple projects for stakeholders
- Detail oriented with superior organizational skills -- balancing multiple projects, deadlines, and requests should be second nature to you

- Product management at Lyft leads the integration of engineering, data science, and design to achieve the company’s vision for reinventing transportation
- As a product manager on the AV team, you will work on one of Lyft’s most exciting new product areas. Lyft partners with AV self-driving technology companies and cities to connect the Lyft community with future AV rides in the Lyft app.
- This role will focus on identifying, testing our way into, and scaling our AV platform to advance Lyft’s future vision for connecting AVs, drivers, riders, and partners to create new opportunities for all
- The right PM for this role will operate with enormous amounts of user empathy, be deeply analytical yet scrappy, and effectively work across Lyft and partners to deliver experiences and products that delight our users and represent our brand values
- Understand Lyft’s strategic and competitive position in the broader AV landscape in order to set an ambitious product vision that motivates and inspires your team, peers and leadership
- Demonstrate customer obsession by deeply understanding and empathizing with the concerns of riders, drivers, and internal and external partners to deliver great product experiences
- Work with your engineering, design, science, business, and operations counterparts to prioritize and execute on the right product solutions that thoughtfully grow Lyft’s AV presence
- Deliver on this vision by setting your team's goals, success metrics and roadmap to align with Lyft’s mission and drive maximum impact
- Build a product roadmap to achieve your goals and lead a core team of engineers, designers, data scientists, legal, policy, and business stakeholders to execute on it
- Be a valued collaborator for business development and strategic partners – finding common ground that meet the needs of all parties
- Completely own your team’s products – existing or new – from ideation, through development, launch, growth, and maintenance
- Collaborate extremely effectively across the company, clearly communicating roadmaps, priorities, experiments, and decisions across a wide spectrum of audiences from partner teams to executive levels
Our take
Lyft has aimed for consistent growth, making sure to pitch itself as a more reliable and friendly ride-sharing option than its main competitor, Uber. Uber has a greater market share and operates globally, but Lyft hopes to compete by its focus on ride-sharing over Uber's more diversified business approach and as a more rider-friendly and greener alternative to Uber.
Operating only in the USA and Canada, Lyft is in a position of being less affected by global events than Uber but also more vulnerable to local conditions. As an example, while it doesn't face the regulatory hurdles around employment rights that Uber does, it is unable to balance out the cost of the unusually expensive US auto insurance across its operations.
In 2022, Lyft acquired PBSC Urban Solutions, a bike-share equipment and technology supplier, allowing Lyft to compete in new verticals and reaffirming its commitment to green transportation. It has also trialed and launched Lyft Assisted, where drivers help passengers from their door into the car to get to medical appointments. These developments chime well with Lyft's unique selling point as a friendlier and more environmentally aware ride-sharing app.
