Role
Who you are
- We are looking for self-motivated people with good communication skills who can complete work independently as well as part of a team
- Great knowledge of modern C# language and prior experience with Unity
- Good knowledge of modern C++ language
- Good knowledge of design patterns and software engineering best practices
- Minimum of four years of professional experience using C# as the main language and C++ as a secondary language in large codebases
- Experience designing and developing systems for multiple platforms, experience with controller/touch input methods preferable
- Strong academic background with a 2:1 degree or higher, or equivalent experience, in a relevant technical field such as computer science, software engineering, mathematics, or physics
- Strong analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills for effective collaboration with software engineers, artists, games design, QA, and production staff
- Self-motivated with a drive to improve yourself and others continuously
- Familiarity with HTML and CSS preferrable
What the job involves
- The studio is looking for a talented Software Engineer to join the Football Manager Console team and take the existing Football Manager Console product to new and exciting heights
- Your role will include integrating new features and quality of life changes from Football Manager, as well as creating and reviewing technical designs for mainly console specific features
- All Software Engineer’s are required to adhere to the coding standards set by the studio
- Integrate new and existing Football Manager features and quality-of-life changes into the Football Manager code base and ensure build stability
- Work closely with the UX/UI Designers and Game Designers to create, scope and develop new console features for Football Manager
- Work across multiple platforms and projects to ensure we deliver the best performance and experience to our customer base
- Collaborate with other disciplines, including QA, Producers, and other engineering teams, on both development and future planning
- Contribute to research and support the console team in line with studio and department objectives
- Reporting into: Lead Software Engineer (Console)

Sports and video games have long had an association with each other, with the FIFA franchise and NBA Jam just two of the many very popular series playable on home consoles from the early 90s onwards. But for many hardcore fans, the managerial aspect of the sport is more appealing. Football Manager, Sports Interactive's flagship title, leveraging real-life sports data to simulate the managerial experience and give gamers the opportunity to lead their favourite clubs.
This immensely popular franchise, distributed by SEGA among others, has rapidly gained in popularity and even outcompeted FIFA Manager, the franchise's managerial offering. With annual improvements to its simulation's accuracy and graphics, Football Manager is now considered to be head and shoulders ahead of any competition.
Sports Interactive is focusing on further developing its properties, including its newer and similarly well-received NHL Eastside Hockey Manager, forming partnerships with clubs and sponsors to allow real-life players and branding to appear in game. At the top of its game, Sports Interactive will continue innovating upon the genre through its focus on strategy, providing gamers with the ultimate sports management simulation experience.
