Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Engineering, etc.)
- 2+ years of experience in a data science, data analysis, or quantitative role. Experience in credit at a financial services or fintech firm is a plus
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Python, including real-world use of standard data science packages such as numpy, pandas, scipy and scikit-learn
- Knowledge of SQL, Snowflake, Datalakes, and Cloud computing are preferred
- Flexibility to explore new ideas and keeps up-to-date on the forefront of emerging data science technologies and machine learning techniques, including GenAI and LLMs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to deliver insights clearly
- Experience in formulating business problems that involves complex data and models
- Ability to collaborate with other disciplines and communicate models and methods
- Innovative. You stay current on state-of-the-art methods, technologies, and applications and seek out opportunities to apply them
- Creative. You are excited about bringing definitions to complex problems; always ask the tough questions and push hard to find the answers. You are not afraid to challenge the status quo and share new ideas
- Technical. You have hands-on experience writing code, researching complex problems and deploying data science modes & pipeliens using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms

- Outcome focused. You work backward from tangible business outcomes, prioritizing and delivering the highest impact results that directly tie to stated business objectives
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Sr Data Science Analyst that will deliver the next generation of data science and decisioning capabilities for our business
- Research, develop and deploy cutting-edge machine learning and AI models, including using GenAI and LLMs, to solve complex business problems and enhance underwriting workflows
- Deliver, monitor and manage data science models and workflows used in all business functions including credit underwriting, customer management, marketing, collections and fraud
- Perform data analysis, data cleanup and feature engineering on large data to gather insights and signals for modeling and policy decisions
- Undertake independent research projects with strong curiosity, understanding and innovation to drive business impact and deliver real-world solutions to challenging problems
- Communicate and collaborate across business teams, financial analysts, software and data engineers, and product managers to deliver business impact and customer experience outcomes
Our take
Having a reliable cash flow is essential for any business. Compared to transfers between individuals, B2B payments have been relatively slow to digitize, with payments delayed for around two months on average for small and medium sized businesses.
Fundbox has created a platform that speeds up how money is exchanged between businesses. Currently, there is over $3T in the U.S. stuck in accounts receivable, meaning cash that is owed between small business buyers and sellers.
As it moves forward, payments are its focus. The payments industry has seen revenue steadily growing, reaching almost $2T globally in 2018. New entrants are tapping into more areas of the space, although Fundbox is competing with companies like Stripe and Kabbage, it believes there is a big enough opportunity in the business-to-business market for several companies to thrive.
The company's long term goal is to be the Visa of B2B payment and credit, offering short-term small-business loans and B2B sellers can get paid at the time of sale via Fundbox Pay. At present, over 500,000 SMBs use FundBox, and it partnered with SMB financial health platform Nav in 2024, using the latter's financial health analysis to create more certainty for SMBs in loan underwriting.
