Who you are

We are looking for motivated developers with enthusiasm for software development and an interest in constantly improving their skills
You have worked with a variety of tasks requiring complex problem-solving using JavaScript and TypeScript. If you also have an interest in multiple programming languages, you will fit right in!
Solid work life experience developing web-based services, using Node.js and React
Good understanding of REST API
Understanding of test- or behavior-driven development (TDD/BDD) including supporting frameworks
Experience in developing services in AWS
An interest and motivation to work with modern frontend and backend frameworks (NestJS, Next.JS)

Desirable

Experience working with a state-less and high transactional end-user product
Experience of working with PHP, Java, or Rust

What the job involves

As a Software Engineer, you will join Viaplay with the mission of bringing the best user experience to our customers
You will join a team that works with commerce-services; attract new users and convert them to become subscribers of Viaplay
You will deliver engineering solutions aligned with technical and product long-term visions
The team delivers on clear goals based on our customer journey and commercial targets and is fully self-reliable in how to create the best solutions to reach their goals
You'll be building solid and high-performing microservices in Node.js and modern front-end frameworks
Microservice/Serverless architecture
Using multiple programming paradigms and languages
Flexible production environment supported by Github Actions and AWS services such as Lambdas, DynamoDB etc
An agile development process where we promote pair/mob programming
Improving our product iterations based on consumer feedback and behavior data

While the streaming media model has been a great success with the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime successfully disrupting the media landscape, continually changing viewing habits means there is plenty of room in the market for new entrants. Specialising in local content and new media technology, Viaplay is a Nordic media and entertainment provider with global ambitions.

Viaplay Group offers a video on demand service, commissions films and series in its studios, operates several TV channels in the Nordic region focused on sports and its own content and runs one of the largest commercial radio networks in the Nordic region. This diversity of offerings stands it in good stead to tackle its larger rivals, and its data-driven approach to its offerings means it produces content that its audiences wants to see, including local films and content that larger rivals might miss or not produce at all.

Leading with its Viaplay streaming service, it has expanded rapidly from the Nordic region, first to the UK in 2022 and then to the US and Canada in early 2023. While it lacks the size of its rivals' media libraries, it has developed a solid base from which it can grow into a major competitor in the digital media market.
