Role
Who you are
- 8+ years of experience in a software backend architecture and development, including backend services and automated testing
- Proficient in object-oriented design and expertise with one of the following programming languages: Python, Java
- Proficient with one of the following containerization solution: Docker, Podman
- Proficient with building REST APIs
- Experience with SQL databases
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Level of written/verbal English (documentation, team presentations, meetings)
Desirable
- Experience and capabilities in Go
- Experience with continuous integration, orchestration, continuous deployment testing and automation tools: Docker, K8s
- Knowledge in microservices architecture
- Experience with developing and deploying applications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)
- Experience working with Agile methodologies
What the job involves
- As part of its growing activities, Dailymotion is looking to enforce its Video Team. You will play a key role in improving the core foundations of our product and building innovative features in close cooperation with Architects, Product Managers and Scrum Masters
- Design and build Backend systems using REST services
- Design and improve video processing queueing system
- Design and improve video upload system
- Proactivity on evolutions and improvements
Our take
In many ways, it's difficult to talk about Dailymotion without talking about YouTube, its most obvious competitor. And it is indeed worth noting that the company underwent a major change in recent years to build its own programmatic platform partially to compete more directly with its famous American counterpart.
However, the truth is the nature of modern content consumption means that Dailymotion need not obsess over YouTube’s user base. There’s enough of an audience - at least 4 billion people by some estimates - for both video-streaming giants to co-exist.
That means Dailymotion has been able to experiment with different strategies. For example, the platform indisputably has better relationships than YouTube with its corporate partners, often engaging in bespoke product development to facilitate deeper relationships.
Perhaps the biggest competitive threat for Dailymotion will be not from its rival video-streaming platform, but from entirely new forms of internet-based entertainment. Short-form video content from platforms like TikTok is already siphoning away the younger cohort of users from longer-format video providers, a trend Dailymotion will need to address in the future.
