Staff Frontend Engineer, Stripe

• 15+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale backend or platform systems
• Demonstrated track record of leading the technical design and delivery of complex, ambiguous product/platform initiatives that span multiple teams or major product areas and deliver measurable business impact
• Strong systems design skills, including experience building scalable, extensible architectures in domains with evolving requirements
• Experience working with distributed and asynchronous systems in production environments
• Proven ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams and to drive alignment and delivery across organizational boundaries
• Regular, hands-on code contributions and code-review activity in production systems; comfortable shipping, debugging, and iterating in large codebases
• Comfortable operating under both technical and business ambiguity: able to translate business goals into technical strategy and present recommendations to senior engineering and business stakeholders
• Accountability for organizational outcomes — you own both your technical contributions and the success of the teams/organizations you support

• As a Staff Software Engineer on Billing, you’ll lead the design and evolution of backend systems that power some of Stripe’s most important product experiences
• You’ll work at the intersection of platform architecture and user impact, building the foundations that allow businesses to model, launch, and scale new ways of charging their customers
• This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning complex technical problems end to end: defining architecture, improving system design, making pragmatic tradeoffs, and partnering closely with product and engineering leaders
• You’ll help Billing become more scalable, composable, and adaptable while mentoring other engineers and raising the quality of technical decision-making across the organization
• Lead the architecture and delivery of foundational backend systems that support subscriptions, invoicing, and usage-based billing
• Design extensible platform capabilities that enable new product use cases while preserving reliability, performance, and ease of iteration
• Drive technical direction across teams by making clear architectural choices, aligning stakeholders, and turning long-term strategy into concrete execution
• Partner closely with product, engineering, and adjacent platform teams to build systems that balance user needs with maintainability and scale
• Improve the quality of system design and domain modeling across the organization through technical leadership, design reviews, and hands-on guidance
• Mentor senior engineers and help develop the next generation of technical leaders within Billing
• Contribute directly to implementation when needed, especially in high-leverage or technically complex areas of the codebase
