Role
Who you are
- Fluency with customer research, extracting insights, and shaping experiences that champion customer needs
- 5+ years of experience in product design. Experience shipping products in-house is a must, ideally both native mobile and responsive web
- Bachelor’s degree or more in visual communication design, interaction design, human computer interaction or similar field. Certificate from a product design bootcamp also works
- Design acumen and expertise that’s focused on visual product design, but may also span interaction patterns, motion, and more
- Fluency and comfort working quickly and tidily in Google Docs and Figma (including autolayout, prototyping, and components)
- Fluency with design thinking as a practice and effective design process and the ability to execute with speed without compromising quality
- Strong online portfolio showcasing your craft, impact, and collaborative process
- A natural drive to envision, make, build, and iterate quickly alongside talented engineers. A project without a PM partner doesn't scare you; it excites you because you're used to building directly in partnership with engineering
- Top-notch written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to present your work to cross-functional teams and leadership, build cross-functional trust, and find comprises with key stakeholders
- Comfort with leading and participating in customer research of all kinds
- Curiosity and a willingness to test new ideas quickly to drive business results and improve the customer experience
- Passion for keeping up with the latest trends in design and tech to fuel your creativity and sharpen your design acumen
- Basic understanding of key business metrics and how design plays a role in driving them
What the job involves
- Partner with product designers, product managers, and engineers to solve real problems for people as they start and grow small businesses
- Mentor and grow the craft of your fellow designers
- Ensure the end-to-end customer experience across web and mobile meets the highest standards of emotional delight
- Contribute to our brand new design system, ensuring consistency of existing patterns and establishing new ones whenever appropriate
- Demonstrate familiarity with industry best practices for accessibility and product design, and be able to apply these practices to improve the quality of deliverables and the customer experience
- Generate lots of ideas for execution, proactively seek feedback and critique from designers and cross-functional partners, and have a strong point of view that you can back up with personal expertise, customer input, and industry trends
- Collaborate effectively—including creatively handling constraints—with partners across brand, marketing, product, engineering, legal, and c-suite
- Juggle multiple projects at one time, using strong communication skills to manage time and expectations appropriately
- Think on your feet and execute quickly against deadlines
- Contribute productively to the product design team culture by participating in critique and reviews, sharing inspiration and trends, and being an active part of the team’s day-to-day operations
