Role
Who you are
- 2+ years of professional experience synthesizing insights from data using tools such as Python/R, SQL. Experience with distributed systems (primarily BigQuery) is a plus
- You are curious and not afraid of exploring new domains; you enjoy partnering with others to define and develop new opportunities
- You are a natural communicator; you focus just as much on how you deliver your findings, as you do on the technical craft of uncovering new insights
- Experience building data visualizations and dashboards (e.g., Tableau or similar BI solution) a plus
- Have a background in Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering or a relevant field
- Comfortable working on a globally distributed team
- Relevant experience in a consumer tech/product company is a plus
What the job involves
- We are looking for an insights focused Data Scientist to join the Global On-Platform Marketing team at Spotify
- You will work within marketing to evaluate our owned-channel campaign impact, providing key insights that shape future direction and channel strategy
- You will collaborate with a distributed team of world-class analysts, data scientists, business leaders, marketers, and engineers
- Learning and improving is part of our daily routine, and you will get a platform to develop your data skills and carve out efficient ways of working
- The Global On-Platform Marketing team is part of Spotify's Global Marketing & Partnerships organization
- You'll play a crucial role in how we communicate with and delight our 625M+ users around the globe

- Deliver thoughtful analysis and insights around on-platform marketing campaigns
- Present your findings to marketing & xfn partners
- Design and implement comprehensive tests, making sure that we track all relevant metrics and that we're learning at every step along the way
- Create and communicate impactful recommendations that improve the impact & effectiveness of our marketing messages
- Work closely with our Marketing & Consumer Insights team to connect off-platform data & insights with our 1st party campaign data
- Support audience targeting and maintenance of existing data pipelines used to measure campaign performance, as needed
Our take
Spotify was founded in an attempt to combat the rampant music piracy that was causing significant harm to the industry. The company has since taken music streaming mainstream and now has 180m+ paying subscribers across the world.
With features that include a highly accessible interface and a vast catalogue of artists, Spotify's strong brand has been able to maintain growth in spite of fierce competition from deep-pocketed rivals like Amazon and Apple. The company has achieved this by making smart acquisitions to move into other verticals to strengthen its offerings, especially podcasting, by acquiring Gimlet Media, Anchor and Parcast.
Spotify's future plans include rapid growth with a goal to become a one-stop destination for all digital sound, as well as AI and NFT integrations. However, high costs incurred from the acquisition of exclusive podcasts, increasing competitor strength, and weak bottom-line growth mean that the company must find a balance to maintain its position in the sector.
