Role
Who you are
- Strong Swift/SwiftUI/Combine experience
- Confidence in working with a highly-skilled engineering team in a fast-paced, iterative environment
- Iterative development, continuous deployment and test automation
- Knowledge sharing, pair programming, collaborative design & development
- Shared code ownership & cross-functional teams
- 3+ years experience in your main expertise area
- Comfortable picking up new things and working on technologies outside your comfort zone
- Are confident delivering features end-to-end, from architecture design and building through to releasing, testing and supporting
- Hold a Bachelors or Masters degree in technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering)
Desirable
- Are experienced in Apple Watch/HealthKit
- Are experienced in TypeScript/JavaScript, React/React Native, Python
- Are experienced in deployment, releasing cycles or CI/CD
- Have experience with Serverless architectures
- Have experience with AWS
- Have open-source contributions
- Have a strong interest in the health/fitness technologies
What the job involves
- Your role will be to help lead and deliver new features for our Apple Watch application, as well as work on our iOS (React-Native) application and third-party integrations such as Garmin, Strava, Coros, and Suunto
- You will work closely with our CTO and engineering team to help shape the future of Runna, and they will be there to support you throughout this exciting journey
- Architect, build, test and deliver new features for our iOS and Apple Watch applications
- Work with the Product team to identify the best suitable solution for the best customer experience
- Always be on hand to help other team members when they need help on technical matters
- Help us operate more efficiently, by building and maintaining our developer tooling and CI/CD pipeline
- We rotate the responsibility of releases across each team member, so you will get the opportunity to lead the process and deploy changes to production
Application process
- 1. Initial CV screening
- 2. Introductory chat (30 minutes video call)
- 3. Take home technical task (max 1-2 hours to complete, or if you have something interesting you recently built and would like to showcase then that's perfectly ok)
- 4. 1-2 hour technical interview (the first half of the call will be used to discuss the take-home technical task from the previous stage and the second half will be some general architecture/tech questions)
- 5. Meet the team (in-person chat with founder(s) and rest of the team)

As a way to keep fit, running has shot up in popularity in recent years, partially due to accessibility, especially during the pandemic. But for those who want to take running to the next level – whether that be a 5K or a marathon – it can be difficult to know where to start in terms of a training plan. Runna supplies an app with personalised training plans for all types of runs, to help people achieve their running and fitness goals.
Runna was founded in 2020 by running enthusiasts for running enthusiasts, in response to the lack of tools – save paying a professional trainer – available to help runners train. Although there is a wealth of day-to-day running apps available, where Runna stands out is in providing training plans for specific races, which can be distinguished by distance and goal time. In addition, it does this whilst maintaining a sense of community, which has proven to be a popular feature amongst other running apps, and still caters to a range of experience levels.
Runna has seen consistent subscriber growth since its launch, serving thousands of users globally. The company plans to build and scale into the future, reach more customers, and expand its team. An acquisition by fitness giant Strava will help it on its way to achieving these aims.
