Role
Who you are
- SRE Experience: 1-3 years of professional SRE experience
- Server Hardware and Provisioning: Exposure to server-class hardware & provisioning
- Distributed Systems Architecture: Understanding of distributed system architecture; exposure to common design patterns, reliability, and scaling
- Infrastructure Design: Basic understanding of infrastructure design: Familiarity with the operational trade-offs of network, storage, and RPC serving designs
- Programming Proficiency: Proficiency with at least one programming language (Python, Go, or similar)
- Infrastructure Tooling: Familiarity with infrastructure tools: Use of Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Cloud Formation, Terraform
- CI/CD Practices: Appreciation of CI/CD practices: Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Gitlab workflows, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, etc
- Observability Tooling: Exposure to Observability tooling and philosophy: logging, monitoring, and alerting tools
- Operating Systems: Experience with Unix/Linux environments
- Networking Fundamentals: Understanding of network fundamentals: Basics of TCP/IP and network programming
- Information Security Awareness: Awareness of basic information security best practices
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, related field, or self-educated in computer science fundamentals

- At Crusoe, our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team plays a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our infrastructure
- SRE at Crusoe is dedicated to detecting, analyzing, and preventing issues to maintain high Service Level Agreements (SLAs) through Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs)
- Through automation and proactive remediation, our SREs resolve common errors automatically, then advise various engineering teams how to build resilient code
- We anticipate and resolve issues before they impact our customers, conduct thorough post-mortems, and drive continuous improvement
- Our customer-centric approach ensures that clients always have access to the virtual machines they depend on
- This role is crucial for maintaining the "gold standard" reliability and performance of Crusoe's AI platform
- The ideal candidate has experience in SRE practices, understanding of distributed systems, networking, Linux, and a passion for automation and problem-solving
- This is a full-time position
- Automation and Tool Development: Automate routine processes and build Crusoe’s internal infrastructure platform to enable software teams to run their services without having to understand the operating system, hardware, and network
- Collaboration and Planning: Collaborate with the team in morning stand-up meetings to discuss ongoing projects, recent incidents, and priorities for the day. Collaborate on action plans for deploying new data centers or retrofitting existing ones. Work closely with software engineers, advising on best practices for resilient code and reviewing changes before deployment
- System Monitoring and Alerting: Review overnight alerts and system performance metrics to ensure everything is running smoothly. Analyze system logs and develop tools to enhance our monitoring capabilities
- Incident Response and Problem Solving: Engage in incident response drills, post-mortems, and root cause analysis sessions to learn from past issues and prevent future ones. Resolve common errors automatically through automation and proactive remediation
- Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Stay focused on maintaining high SLIs and SLOs, ensuring that our infrastructure remains robust and reliable for our customers
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Document work, share insights with the team, and plan for the next day's challenges, always with a customer-centric mindset
Our take
Crusoe is tackling one of the biggest challenges facing the digital age: the enormous energy demand of data centres and AI infrastructure. As AI models grow more powerful, they require immense computing power (and therefor electricity) to train and operate. This surge in energy use has put some pressure on power grids, driven up costs, and raised environmental concerns. Crusoe is on a mission to make this process more sustainable by finding smarter, cleaner, and more efficient ways to power the data centres that drive modern computing.
The company started out by putting wasted energy to work. Originally known as Crusoe Energy, it captured natural gas that would otherwise be burned off ("flared") at remote oil sites and used it to power modular data centres. Today, Crusoe has evolved into a major player in AI infrastructure, designing and operating large-scale data centres near renewable or stranded energy sources. It's now one of a handful of "neocloud" companies (next-generation cloud providers focused on flexible, efficient computing for AI workloads). And its facilities are helping tech giants like OpenAI handle the massive computing requirements of training advanced AI models.
Recently, Crusoe has attracted some huge investor attention, tripling its valuation to over $10B and raising $1.4B in its latest funding round. It's building OpenAI's first major US data centre campus and even experimenting with bold new frontiers. In partnership with Starcloud, Crusoe plans to deploy the world's first space-based cloud computing infrastructure, powered by solar energy and orbiting the Earth by 2027. If successful, this could redefine how and where computing happens, opening up a cleaner, virtually limitless source of energy for AI's next generation.
