Role
Who you are
- Fluency in shell scripting, and at least one programming language such as Rust, Python, Javascript etc as well as the willingness to learn new languages and tools
- Experience working with CI / CD systems such as Github Actions and Buildkite, as well as common cloud technologies such as Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm Charts, ArgoCD and Postgres
- Experience testing and delivering applications built for mobile or cloud services
Desirable
- Fluency in Rust
- Experience writing SQL for data analytics
- Familiarity across a breadth of programming languages such as Rust, C++, JavaScript, Swift, Kotlin, Dart, .NET. Java, and platforms such WASM, JS Web, Windows, Linux, MacOS, JVM, mobile emulators, and native mobile
- Experience working with testing and delivering technologies built for Mobile
- Experience with property-based testing or other state-space exploration techniques
- Previous experience with unified build systems (Bazel, Buck, Nix, etc.)
- Previous experience with data analytics for effective monitoring

- Help us ignite the future of highly scalable data synchronization as a Software Engineer for the Performance & Release Team
- This team’s mission is to build the development infrastructure that enables all teams at Ditto to ship excellent code
- It is newly formed and covers the domains of CI / CD, QA, automated testing, and releases
- We are seeking a highly motivated senior software engineer to drive innovation and expand the ways in which we build and ship an excellent product at Ditto
- Your role will involve working with a talented team of mixed backgrounds from seasoned QA engineers to software engineers who have worked on all aspects of the edge platform
- You will work with all your colleagues to improve our existing development systems, build new systems, bring in new tools, and own the pipeline that ships the platform to customers
- You will work closely with the teams that ship code with our pipeline to build best-in-class development infrastructure for the engineers at Ditto
- Build, maintain, and monitor shared development infrastructure such as CI / CD systems, benchmarking, and container management systems for developers across all engineering teams at Ditto with a focus on scalability and reliability
- Build mobile apps and test automation in collaboration with QA for more efficient manual testing
- Contribute to the team’s roadmap and pitch ways we can improve the internal systems at Ditto
- Discover ways to increase the reliability, coverage, and consistency of CI and CD for all the components of Ditto’s Edge Platform including SDKs and Cloud services
- Create and improve process to ensure the reliability, performance, and availability of our critical internal systems
- Learn a broad set of new technologies across the domains of cloud services, mobile development, and the rust eco system
Our take
While it's convenient to assume that all the data an app needs is always located in a single place, the reality is more messy. Multi-cloud platforms, IoT devices with varied or limited connectivity and even smartphones can hold necessary data for many applications. The problem for developers is how to tame, access and use this data. Ditto exists to fix this, providing a distributed database that pulls and synchronises data from edge devices and the cloud.
Able to operate even in locations without internet, using peer-to-peer WiFi, Bluetooth and wired networks to pull data together, it provides a layer of infrastructure which is increasingly required as IoT picks up steam. However, it is not the only entrant in this growing market, and faces competition from the likes of Whalesync, PieSync and Grouparoo.
While most of these companies provide the same kind of functionality, Ditto's large and growing customer base in the tens of thousands (including the likes of the US Air Force, Lufthansa and Japan Airlines) indicates that its product is a strong competitor in this space. It has also attracted the attention of investors, most recently closing a hefty Series A round. It intends to use this funding to almost double its headcount and to focus on commercializing its product.
