Role
Who you are
- Technical background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience in program/project management: 4+ years managing complex technical projects, preferably in hardware, semiconductors, or deep tech
- Highly organized and efficient: Proven track record of handling multiple projects and priorities
- Strong communication skills: Ability to translate technical challenges into actionable program management plans
- Data-driven decision-making: Proficient in project tracking, reporting, and analytics tools
- Ability to work across disciplines: Experience coordinating work across hardware, software, and regulatory teams
Desirable
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent certification
- Experience with ultrasound or other medical imaging technologies
- Experience with regulated industries: Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA QSR, IEC 60601, or similar standards
- Exposure to high-volume manufacturing environments
- Understanding of software development processes and integration workflows
What the job involves
- We are seeking a Customer Program Manager (CPM) to drive the execution of highly technical customer projects across hardware and software engineering for Butterfly Embedded
- The CPM will be responsible for program execution from concept to commercialization, ensuring that Butterfly and its partners meet critical technical milestones while maintaining high efficiency
- This role requires strong technical acumen, exceptional organizational skills, and experience leading complex projects
- Program Execution: Own the planning and execution of technical projects across the R&D, product development, and new product introduction
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with engineering, regulatory, quality, legal, and supply chain teams to ensure projects remain on track
- Budgeting & Resource Management: Track and manage project budgets, forecasts, and internal time tracking for accurate financial reporting
- Technical Roadmap Alignment: Maintain alignment between BFLY Embedded’s technical priorities and those of its partners, ensuring deliverables meet strategic goals
- Milestone Tracking: Keep detailed records of project milestones, technical dependencies, and risk management plans
- Regulatory & Compliance Coordination: Work with internal and external teams to ensure medical device compliance, including FDA, ISO, and other regulatory standards
- Logistics & Order Fulfillment: Oversee procurement, production scheduling, and logistics to ensure timely delivery of products and components
- Process Optimization: Identify bottlenecks in project execution and improve processes to enhance efficiency
Our take
Ultrasound machines are invaluable tools for clinicians, but remain inaccessible to many. This is due to existing machines relying on quartz-powered transducers and other specialized components, resulting in them being very large and expensive. Butterfly Network builds inexpensive and compact ultrasound technology in order to increase access to clinics across the US.
The company's device is around the same size as an electric razor, a design made possible by storing the ultrasound technology on a chip as opposed to a semi-conductor. Whilst Butterfly Network has not innovated the ultrasound process itself, it has found a unique gap in the market with this approach.
In addition to the device, Butterfly Network supplies image interpretation for a monthly cost. It also operates ''Butterfly Garden'', where medical device companies, virtual care companies, and AI developers can access its software development kit. This enables new applications to be created that support the innovation of ultrasound technology.
