Role

Who you are

  • Have early stage (0-1) product experience building consumer financial products, in the investments/trading/crypto space at a start-up or scale-up, and enjoy being hands on with a cross functional team of analysts, designers, and engineers
  • Able to say “no” more than you say “yes” to keep the squads focused on the most impactful priorities, but also able to communicate clearly with stakeholders and get alignment
  • Work collaboratively with your product squad and involve them in strategy and decision-making
  • Bring creativity into how we approach financial products. We're radically changing how people interact with and feel about their finances. This means thinking about problems in a different way, and we encourage PMs from all backgrounds to apply
  • Bring energy and drive to ensure your product is successful. People would describe you as a force of nature who cares about their team

What the job involves

  • As a key member of our New Ventures pillar, you will be instrumental in helping us explore and serve new user segments
  • Your primary focus will be on exploring trading opportunities, specifically in investment and crypto
  • You will lead the process from ideation and concept stages to validating and testing key assumptions, and ultimately designing, testing, and building an MVP that can scale if successful
  • Collaborate with your cross-functional squad to generate concepts that resonate with the target audience, particularly in crypto trading
  • Understand the key financial assumptions we need to test and validate to ensure that the product could be significantly revenue additive at scale
  • Decide on scope and trade-offs to get MVPs out to users for the most promising concepts and ensure success criteria are established and evaluated
  • Work with commercial finance, operations/partnerships to understand lead times and dependencies for scaling an MVP to a larger number of users
  • Align with marketing on value props for acquiring new users to the product
  • Continue to validate key assumptions as the product scales and continuously iterate on the product based on learnings

Application process

  • Step 2: 45 minutes with the Hiring Manager - Matt Alcock, Group PM - New Ventures
  • Step 3: Live product task interview, to be presented to a Product Lead and another squad member, normally a Lead Product Designer
  • Step 4: 45 minutes each with two cross-functional peers from engineering, user experience, commercial or data

Cleo was one of the first companies to make great use of chatbots that sit within Facebook's messenger app. This chatbot-first approach and Gen Z user base have given it strong virality. It now has millions of registered users, 99% of which are based in the US, leading to a decision to take a year break from the UK market to focus on its US Gen Z customers.

Its Series C funding will help the company to double down in the US, where it will make a significant increase in employee headcount, and enable Cleo to maintain and expand its service during an economic downturn.

Financial advice delivered via bots is a crowded space, so Cleo benefits from having a strong brand presence. It has gone for very bold, fun, Gen Z-focused messaging which helps it to stand out from competitors such as Emma, Plum, and Chip.
