Who you are
- This is a role for someone who thrives on building high-performing teams, making key architectural decisions, and staying close enough to the technology to guide and inspire others
- Proven experience (7+ years) in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Strong background in AI/ML, MLOps, and cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Demonstrated track record of delivering AI-driven products into production at scale
- Deep understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, and data pipelines
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment
Desirable
- Experience in computer vision, NLP, or other advanced AI domains
- Previous startup or high-growth company experience
- Familiarity with compliance and ethics in AI systems
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Head of Engineering to lead our technical team and drive the successful delivery of AI projects from concept to production
- You’ll bring a strong mix of technical expertise, leadership experience, and product focus to scale our AI systems into robust, reliable, and impactful solutions
- Our AI systems sit at the intersection of vision, data engineering, and production-grade deployment. As Head of Engineering, you’ll be critical in scaling our technical foundation - ensuring the team delivers robust, performant, and impactful AI systems in fast-moving commercial environments
- Define and drive the engineering roadmap for AI and core infrastructure
- Balance short-term project delivery with long-term architectural scalability
- Oversee end-to-end AI project execution - from prototyping to production
- Partner with Data Science and Research to operationalize models with best-in-class MLOps practices
- Mentor and grow a high-performing engineering team (ML engineers, MLOps, data, infra)
- Build rhythms for delivery, code review, sprint planning, and accountability
- Align engineering efforts with product, infrastructure, and commercial teams for seamless integration
- Translate technical complexity into clear value for stakeholders
- Step into architecture design, model iteration, and performance optimization as needed

It substitutes the expensive and rare real-world data required to train CV algorithms with synthetically generated data to provide massive, rich and diverse low-cost data sets at a fraction of the cost and time.
Working with leading CPG brands, Neurolabs' Image Recognition technology utilises synthetic data and digital twins. It combines advanced machine learning techniques and CGI models to create large sets of perfectly labelled data that is optimised for CV, giving its customers scalable and accurate insights. The company’s proprietary CV technology enables rapid state-of-the-art development of object recognition solutions across multiple use cases and industries, accelerating the automation of repetitive visual tasks.
Its technology empowers both small and large customers to implement CV applications with minimal resources and costs — no coding required, no tedious data labelling, and no image gathering. Its partners use the technology to automate generic object recognition tasks in industries ranging from hospitality to retail and manufacturing.
Although ‘automation’ is a term that is often associated with job losses, Neurolabs’ vision is to enhance the capabilities of workers, not replace them outright. With its 2025 Series A funding, it plans to grow its team and expand its presence across the UK, European and US markets.
