Who you are
- Previous experience of a PR or media role and a solid understanding of how journalists and broadcasters operate
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- A keen eye for a good story and the ability to think creatively about how to develop them to get our messages in earned media
- A passion for reacting swiftly to the news agenda to maximise coverage
What the job involves
- We are looking for a PR & Communications Officer to join our Communications team
- You’ll be a talented communicator, a skilled storyteller, and will have a strong interest in new and emerging media channels and how they can raise the profile of Anthony Nolan
- You’ll be passionate and dynamic – and will use these attributes to develop creative media activities, making effective use of the best quality content
- You will build and maintain strong relationships with journalists making us the go-to charity for journalists writing about blood cancer, blood disorders and stem cell transplants
- Your focus will be building our brand with key youth audiences and generating interest in joining the Anthony Nolan register
- You will devise media plans including setting objectives, KPIs and creative tactics and evaluating all activity

Our take
Founded in 1974 to find bone marrow donors for people suffering with blood cancer, Anthony Nolan is today one of Britain's largest recruiters of stem cell donors, along with DKMS, the Welsh Blood Service and NHS Blood and Transplant. As only one in four people with blood cancer will find a compatible donor in their family, Anthony Nolan's work saves over 1,000 lives a year worldwide.
Aside from recruiting donors, Anthony Nolan conducts research through the Anthony Nolan Research Institute, with its findings reducing post-transplant complications and increasing quality of life for patients. It also maintains the UK's first dedicated cord blood bank which allows new mothers to donate their umbilical cords for research.
Despite significant advances in blood cancer tratment since Anthony Nolan's founding, there's still a critical shortage of donors, sworsened by a sharp declinesiunce 2019. To combat this, the charity is actively raising awareness of this issue and is also set to open a new stem cell donation centre at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham to further help address the gap.
