Who you are
- You are a seasoned developer: you can translate (challenging) ideas into code, come up with just the right amount of abstraction, find your way around large complex codebases, optimise for performance and readability, debug hard-to-reproduce problems and communicate about all these things with colleagues
- You have worked as part of teams consisting of 4 or more developers and are used to having your ideas challenged and providing constructive criticism to others
- 5+ years of professional application development experience
- Experience with strongly typed languages. TypeScript experience preferred
- Experience with relational databases. PostgreSQL experience preferred
- Experience with single-page application frameworks. Angular experience preferred
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- You are based in Europe (no visa sponsorship available currently)
Desirable
- Experience with document-oriented databases. Elasticsearch experience preferred
- Experience with system administration (Unix/Linux) or DevOps
- Experience heading (technical) projects and mentoring junior colleagues
- Experience working with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds
- Affinity with the medical domain
- You are based in The Netherlands. This is so that you can occasionally visit our office and join in-person team and company activities
What the job involves
- We are looking for a senior full-stack developer to join our application team
- You will work on the front- and back-end of the CTcue application, known internationally as IQVIA Patient Finder Solution. This involves implementing features both large and small, improving existing functionality and resolving bugs
- You will collaborate with other developers on ongoing improvement of the code, which includes expanding test coverage
- You will contribute to our documentation which covers processes, code, development- and deployment workflows, features and ongoing projects at various stages of completion
- You will review colleagues’ pull requests
- You will help refine our JIRA tickets from a technical perspective
- You will help investigate and resolve problems escalated by our support team
- You will be a part of innovation in the medical field, contributing to improved outcomes for healthcare patients and providers
- You will have the opportunity to be responsible for the technical communication and preparation in (cross-team) projects. This will often mean online collaboration with international colleagues
- You will be able to contribute ideas for the CTcue application both technical and non-technical (for example user interface improvements)
- Our team currently consists of 1 product owner, 1 designer, 3 developers (2 seniors, of which 1 lead) and 2 testers
- Our team is responsible for the CTcue application. There are also data warehouse, artificial intelligence, deployment, support and consultancy teams. The CTcue organisation altogether consists of about 30 people. We are part of a larger EMEA team within the IQVIA business
- We work in 2-week sprints using Agile methodology
- We use NodeJS, NestJS, TypeScript, PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch in the back-end
- We use Angular, TypeScript and Akita in the front-end
Our take
IQVIA is a world leader in analytics and clinical research in the life sciences sector. Formed from a merger between IMS Health and Quintiles, it has over 40 years of experience in the sector and has grown to become one of the world’s largest contract research organisations, with a network spanning more than 100 countries.
Since its founding, IQVIA has outperformed the market, with is main concerns being in the expansion of biosimilar firms such as Humira which are able to provide generic drugs from existing medications, without needing further data analysis. However IQVIA’s involvement in new areas of research are likely to more than offset this trend.
With global medicine spend on track to reach £1.3 trillion by 2025, IQVIA is focusing its efforts on oncology and immunology, the most profitable sectors in pharmaceutical development. It is also building out its technological infrastructure, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence. While it is frank about the limitations of this technology within the sector, it is able to greatly augment the data-handling capabilities of health science teams. Development in this sector is key to IQVIA’s growth plans for 2025 and beyond, which is on track with 2023-24 seeing a massive increase in company share value.
