Who you are

You’re an experienced software developer ready for a new challenge
You have a degree in computer science (or something similar) and experience working on large-scale applications
You have solid experience building backend services in Java and are comfortable working with modern frontend technologies like JavaScript or TypeScript
You enjoy designing clean, maintainable architectures and aren’t afraid to dive into a large codebase to improve or extend it
You know how to work with relational databases, write efficient queries, and design APIs that are both powerful and easy to use
You’re at home in an agile, collaborative environment, whether that means pair programming, reviewing code, or brainstorming architecture with teammates
You’re comfortable shipping features for both SaaS and on-premise deployments
If you’ve worked with Go before, that’s a plus, but you’re just as happy to pick it up as needed
It’s also a bonus if you’ve worked with Kubernetes and Helm, are familiar with tools like JIRA, Jenkins, Git, and Confluence, or have experience with search technologies such as Elasticsearch
We’d love someone who’s experienced with, or at least curious about, leveraging AI development tools, bringing AI capabilities into real projects and production
You value writing clean, well-tested code and you care about the people who will read and use it later
Working in English is natural for you, and you’re motivated to keep learning and growing while contributing to the success of our team and our technology

What the job involves

Right now, we are looking for a Software Engineer (m/f/d) to join our team at KNIME in Berlin or Konstanz
You’ll be part of a team that designs, builds, and deploys the core services and web applications behind KNIME Hub, with a particular focus on the Community Hub SaaS platform
You’ll work on developing robust Java-based microservices as well as contributing to frontend components to deliver seamless, user-friendly web experiences
You'll design, implement, and maintain Java-based microservices powering KNIME Hub
Develop and enhance web applications and frontend components using JavaScript/TypeScript/Vue
Build, design, and improve REST APIs to support seamless integration across products
Explore and apply AI development tooling to enhance features, automation, and overall platform capabilities
Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and agile development practices
Collaborate closely with other teams to identify issues and implement solutions that improve performance, scalability, and user experience
Be part of a respectful and supportive team culture, working closely with other KNIMErs, our customers, and partners

Our take

AI training and data preparation have an accessibility problem, which is why KNIME has created a workflow platform that aids in building analyses for AI models. Using no-code technology, KNIME helps to upskill across various disciplines in an organisation by sharing insights from AI models across all wings of a business.

Effectively, KNIME makes AI monitoring and insights easy to use for the layperson, and this makes it a great foundational tool for building data applications and knowledge bases. What was once an exclusive endeavour has its boundaries opened up, helping more people engage with and learn how to use AI models across social media, finance and retail markets.

A 2024 growth equity investment from INVUS will be channelled into reaching new markets with its cloud analytics platform. Interestingly, though there was interest from other VCs, the company says it chose this partnership because it would not change the company's focus or open source philosophy.
