Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or comparable work experience
- 5+ years of professional engineering experience
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with peers, partners, and stakeholders
- Experience designing and building highly scalable, reliable, available, and performant systems
- Experience driving all phases of the development lifecycle: planning, execution, measuring success, and post-launch maintenance
- Expert understanding of application architecture, API design patterns, data modeling, security, performance, and scaling

- Experience at growth-stage companies, migrating legacy systems to microservices, and leading cross-functional initiatives

What the job involves
- We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join Rula’s Provider Services team, where we provide the tools necessary to bring health providers and patients together
- In this role, you will design and build scalable, reliable backend systems critical to the day-to-day operations at Rula, third party integrations and telehealth functions. As a key contributor, you’ll identify and solve complex technical challenges, collaborate across teams, and drive innovation that supports our mission to deliver impactful and cohesive solutions
Our take
More than half of adults in the US will be diagnosed with a mental illness during their lifetime, and yet inaccessibility of treatment remains a huge problem. That’s what Rula aims to solve, with its platform that matches users to therapists that are covered by their insurance.
The company, formerly known as Path, is partnered with a number of major health insurers, including United Healthcare and Anthem, making it an accessible service for millions of Americans. It allows users to browse therapists almost instantly, with just a short questionnaire to fill in before their matches are shown.
Though the market for tech-enabled mental health provision is rather overstuffed, with giants like BetterHelp as well as newer competitors, Rula's partnerships with insurers set it apart. The business has been steadily growing, and significantly bolstered its executive team in 2023. It also rebranded to emphasise its vision to improve not only access to mental health care, but also clinical outcomes.
