Who you are
- Proven professional experience with Object Oriented Programming (OOP)
- Experience with Laravel, Symfony, Springboot or other frameworks following the MVC architecture is a strong plus
- Experience with applications providing a RESTful API
- Deep understanding of HTTP
- Strong knowledge of relational databases
- Experience with unit testing frameworks such as PHPUnit
- Good understanding of SOLID principles and software design patterns
- Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude
- Self-starter, ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Being cyber security-minded is a strong plus

- Work on one of our HTB platforms, HTB Business, responsible for upskilling organizations across the globe. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on the enhancement of the platform and the development of new features
- We are open to candidates with diverse back end programming backgrounds, as long as you have experience in an MVC framework, passion and aspiration to work with PHP programming language and the Laravel Framework
- As a Back end developer you will work closely with developers, QA and Product Managers to create an amazing experience for HTB customers. You will be an integral part of HTB development team aspiring to build the world's largest hacker community. This engineering team is the biggest one , aligning with the expansive mindset of our HTB Business platform and serving a diverse set of customers globally
- Develop new features and tools using the Laravel PHP Framework
- Generate clean, safe, reusable and scalable PHP code
- Create and maintain RESTful APIs
- Contribute to architectural and software design decisions
- Contribute and maintain technical documentation and specifications
- Perform code reviews
- Maintain the platform by reacting to issues and defects raised
- Collaborate with frontend developers, who are using Vue.js to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic
- Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies

- Level 5: You've officially received an offer from HTB! To complete the last level and the Quest, all you need to do is accept the offer
Our take
Cybersecurity attacks have ballooned in number recently, shining a spotlight on the urgent need for tighter, sharper cybersecurity measures. Hack the Box’s response has been to create what they call a ‘massive cyberhacking playground’. It’s a cybersecurity skill platform where B2C users can explore gameified cyber training and penetration testing exercises, engage with the infosec community, and explore careers vacancies. B2B customers can access the same training, with additional administrative features.
All in all, it’s a comprehensive offering that allows Hack the Box to sit at the intersection of two lucrative and growing markets. On the one hand, an increase in people carrying out career pivots towards the tech sector, and pursuing online training opportunities. On the other, an increased business focus on (and investment in) improving cybersecurity postures.
Consequently, Hack the Box has seen substantial growth over the past few years, on the back of considerable funding up to series B. It’s touted as the world’s largest hacking community, with over 3.3 million platform members and a growing number of products, including new training programs such as penetration testing labs and an academy. With demand for these skills rising and demand for online teaching equally strong, Hack the Box is operating within a strong market with good growth potential.
