- Backend Engineers without search experience are also welcome to apply!

- If you already have experience with that, that’s definitely a plus!
- 3+ years of backend experience, ideally with a focus on search working with Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Apache Lucene, Solr, or similar
- Experience in e-commerce platforms or similar
- Solid understanding of ranking, indexing, and structured search
- Hands-on experience with search query performance optimization and scalability strategies
- Ability to deploy, monitor, and optimize production search services
Desirable
- Experience with our stack, mainly in Node.js/TypeScript and/or Python, but also Mongo, Typesense
- Familiarity with vector search, embeddings, NLP, and AI-driven search enhancements
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Backend / Search Engineer to help us build and refine our product discovery experience, making it faster, smarter, and more intuitive
- Design, build, and optimize internal search of our e-commerce platform and internal tools
- Improve search relevance, ranking algorithms, and performance of product search
- Develop and maintain search-related APIs and backend services
- Implement features like autocomplete, filters, sorting, and typo tolerance
- Analyze search logs and user behavior to guide improvements
- Monitor and optimize search infrastructure for speed, scalability and maintainability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate search solutions into our platform
- Develop and maintain backend systems for crypto payments using Node.js/TypeScript
- Implement new supplier and third party integrations

Our take
Bitrefill sells gift cards that you can use as vouchers to buy things like electronics, groceries, clothing, phone refills, or flights to go on holiday. Its main selling point is ease - the fact you can virtually pay for anything with cryptocurrencies through gift cards.
Similar to a credit card, when a user buys a gift card or phone refill, they will earn a cash back reward, but in the form of the largest cryptocurrency, bitcoin. The company continues to grow by building new features to add to its appeal, such as enabling users to pay their bills and taxes with bitcoin, or integrating with Strike - the payment application - to access 5% cashback in bitcoin.
Founded in 2015, it is one of the oldest players facilitating crypto payments and hence rode the wave of crypto uptake. There are currently thousands of merchants across almost 200 countries integrated in the network, which have included brands from Amazon and Airbnb to Domino’s and Netflix.
