Role
Who you are
- We’re looking for someone who likes to work in a fast-changing environment, is willing to pick up new contexts, and is passionate about the mission we’re on and the product we’re building together
- 3+ years experience working or equivalent experience as a Decision Scientist, Data Analyst, Product Analyst or a Strategic role with a strong data component
- BSc or MSc in Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Econometrics, or another related field (equivalent working experience is also acceptable)
- Statistical proficiency (e.g. A/B testing, regression analysis)
- Programming experience (Python/Spark/Scala/R)
- Proficient in SQL and experience with dashboarding tools (e.g. Looker, Tableau, etc.)
- Highly business-oriented
- A good communicator who can present complex topics clearly and persuasively to different audiences
- Ability to deal with uncertainty and to combine data insights with strategic thinking
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Advantage: experience working in (data-driven) strategy

What the job involves
- As our new Decision Scientist, you will become a part of the cross-functional product team that is responsible for building the strategy and the product for our new professional sellers segment
- This segment includes sole traders, thrift stores, vintage traders and others
- You and your team will explore this business opportunity, identify user needs, and look for new and improved solutions to help our professional members be successfully integrated into the platform while still keeping the experience for individual non-professional members great
- It is an exciting role where you will be co-creating a totally new proposition for Vinted
- As a Decision Scientist you will uncover data insights to shape our strategy, help set our ambitious growth targets, and do deep-dives on the performance
- Decision Scientists are responsible for actionable insights, identifying and sizing opportunities, and automated tools that increase the quality of product and business decisions by applying statistical methods and data-driven decision making
- Data Scientists are responsible for identification of algorithmic opportunities, ensuring those opportunities are addressed in an optimal fashion and design, development and maintenance of production-grade statistical and machine learning algorithms
- Collaborate with your team and direct stakeholders to identify strategic opportunities and answer key business questions
- Ensure these questions are answered in an optimal fashion (e.g. in the form of an ad hoc deep-dive, growth model, experiment, dashboard, or automatically recurring analysis)
- Analyse identified opportunities to understand their scope and impact
- Define and own the key performance indicators, including selection, tracking, forecasting, reporting, and proactively flagging issues
- Enable your team and direct stakeholders to independently leverage data for business insights via self-serving and dashboarding tools
- Ensure features developed and owned by the team have appropriate tracking set-up
- Define the requirements for (A/B) testing, ensure the features have appropriate tracking, and analyse the results of tests and experiments
Our take
For many years, the online fashion resale market was dominated by eBay. Vinted, first set up as a local website, has challenged the incumbent market leader by shifting focus towards sustainability.
Vinted has managed to compete successfully with other eCommerce platforms by providing more creative and personalized ways to shop, and focusing solely on fashion. With 75 million users it outstrips other fashion-focused competitors in this space, such as Depop which has roughly half the user base, but it sees its real competition in retailers that sell new clothing.
Vinted has raised significant funding which it has invested into rapid expansion, growing its presence in European markets and scaling up its US operations. While in the short term this has caused its profitability to drop, this expanded market reach is likely to yield dividends in the very near future.
