Role
Who you are
- Previous experience of risk and control reporting and risk data management, including past experience in a financial institution/bank/consultancy around banking & finance/regulatory body - you know what good looks like and you’re confident you can bring that to Monzo!
- Experience with data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, R, and visualisation tools like Looker
- Previous experience using Airtable or similar tools (advantageous)
- A passion for data and a sharp eye for detail
- Amazing Excel or Google Sheets skills including VBA or Apps Script
- Experience in automating or enhancing recurring processes by leveraging technology
- Data skills - spotting trends, pulling out actionable insights and capable of producing high quality reporting output for Board, Executive and Regulatory audiences
- An open mind, an appreciation for transparency, and the ability to think outside the box
What the job involves
- We're looking for a Finance Internal Controls Senior Analyst with a passion for transforming data into insights, and streamlining processes. This role sits within our Finance Collective and is part of the Internal Controls/Financial Risk Team
- In this team you'll help us keep things simple and secure, making our processes run like clockwork - whether it's starting from scratch, or making our existing systems even better!
- You'll be a wizard with Google Sheets, developing and looking after templates, automations, and even Apps Script for generating documents. These solutions are vital for capturing and bringing our data together, cutting down on manual work and making sure we can generate key reports quickly and consistently
- Managing the data in our risk and control systems - overseeing the administration of these fields, owning the processes around them, and reporting data quality issues to the relevant teams so they can be fixed quickly
- Designing, building, and maintaining streamlined solutions using third-party software like Airtable for centralising our information, and Slack integrations to smooth out our team workflows
- Preparing important reports for regulators, our Board, and various Committees. Your knack for detail and accuracy will ensure these high-stakes documents are spot-on, reflecting our risk and control environment precisely when it matters most
- Running key routine processes, like our annual refreshes of our Conduct Dashboard, and making sure all our stakeholder forms are up-to-date. These might sound like small tasks, but they're super important for keeping everything compliant and ensuring our colleagues have the most current information
- Collaborating with data teams across Monzo to develop awesome data assets and metrics. This could involve defining requirements for Dashboards, creating centralised reporting, digging into Risk Appetite metrics, or performing in-depth dashboard analysis
- Ensuring any reporting and automations you’re responsible for runs like clockwork and guidance on how to use these tools and processes is up to date
- Designing brilliant ways to automate your work and leverage technology to ensure we scale with the business

Monzo is a challenger bank that fully operates online and offers a full range of current, savings, business accounts, and more. The speed of the challenger banks to provide a great experience has been impressive, and the number of competitors appearing has proven the consumer desire for innovation.
Monzo remains one of the popular online banks, with more than 6 million active users. The company faces competition from more traditional banks, such as Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, which have launched their own digital banks. However, the new technologies that the company is built on enable it to expand quickly (with fewer issues) than the incumbent players' offerings.
With an increasing amount of people switching banks, the company's ever-expanding suite of banking and financial services (such as its buy-now-pay-later offering) has resulted in Monzo receiving the second-highest net switching gains among digital challenger banks (just behind Starling).
After setting U.S. expansion plans aside in 2020, the company launched in the U.S. market in early 2022, partnering with Sutton Bank to provide its U.S. accounts. After several years focused on narrowing its losses, Monzo hit profitability in the first two months of 2023. In the same year, 2 million new customers joined, tallying its customer base at 9 million in 2024.
