Who you are

  • Reputation for curiosity (re: the work of our stakeholders and partners) and for building systems and investing in people
  • Proven track record of creating structure, prioritizing, and meeting timelines in situations that are uncertain or ambiguous
  • Persuasive and concise communications when you analyze data, draw conclusions, and develop actionable recommendations. Prior experience taking analysis and insights all the way through to execution and adoption

What the job involves

  • MongoDB is seeking a Senior Analyst, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) for our R&D Business Partnering team
  • You will set the direction for how we improve the “customer experience” for our senior stakeholders in R&D (the CTO and CPO organizations); offer data-driven insights into our R&D investments; and establish strong relationships with Finance, Operations, and People team partners that are critical to our success
  • The Senior Analyst will be accountable for day-to-day operational excellence, while incubating and driving big picture initiatives
  • The Senior Analyst is expected to make significant contributions to the success of MongoDB by enabling executives and team leaders to make better decisions that are informed by financial and operational data
  • Building Relationships: Establish and own positive relationships and become a “source of truth” and reliable partner for our Product and Engineering business partners. Learn their organizations so that we can connect the dots between the R&D environment, the themes in other areas of the business, and MongoDB’s company objectives
  • Forecasting and Budgeting: Coordinate these processes with VP-level stakeholders, honing in on the key levers for growth and investment and prioritizing the key risks Headcount planning and optimization is a key focus; you will partner with Recruiting and HR partners to drive efficiencies in workforce planning and reporting
  • Financial Hygiene: Perform financial month-end close activities, including headcount reconciliations, accrual reviews, and budget vs. actuals analysis and reporting
  • Operational Effectiveness: Improve and scale business, operational and financial processes from idea to adoption, including getting buy-in from important stakeholders and partners. Examples include standardizing and automating reports on headcount and improving how we leverage internal systems
  • Data Analysis and Decision Support Modeling: Conduct ad-hoc analyses and build financial models and spreadsheet/dashboard tools to guide leaders towards efficient operating strategies, resource allocation, and investments in product initiatives
  • By the end of 90 days, a successful Senior Analyst will be the primary owner of the monthly close process (“Financial Hygiene” above) and take lead on FY27 budget discussions with a select group of VP+ stakeholders in the MongoDB Engineering and Product organization

Our take

MongoDB is an open-source, cross-platform, document-oriented database system. It stores data as JSON-like documents and is written in C++, Go, JavaScript and Python.

Essentially, the company develops tools and blueprints to help businesses and organisations modernise their legacy applications, migrating them to the MongoDB database and the MongoDB Atlas cloud database. With this initiative, MongoDB is particularly taking aim at Oracle customers with ageing applications running on the Oracle relational database system.

Since its release, MongoDB has become one of the most popularly used NoSQL database systems due to its ease of use and efficiency. It is also the fastest-growing database ecosystem, and boasts hundreds of millions of downloads. Recently, the company announced a partnership with Patronus AI, an automated evaluation and security platform, through which it will bring automated LLM evaluation and testing capabilities to enterprise customers.
