What the job involves
- We’re on the lookout for an experienced SEO manager to join our MarComms team. You’ll be integral to helping us achieve our product acquisition growth goals
- We’re looking for someone with a mix of SEO content strategy, technical skills, and data-driven decision-making
- You’ll also need soft skills such as curiosity, critical thinking, organisation, and be an effective communicator
- Working with content writers, web managers and developers, you’ll ensure that the Starling website is optimised for search engines for both on-page and technical SEO
- There'll also be collaboration with the wider marketing and business teams
- You’ll share SEO insights to help customer service teams anticipate and address common customer concerns
- You’ll develop SEO strategies that align with our growth plans, and collaborate with the Head of Digital - Web & SEO on a pipeline of activities to deliver
- You’ll keep up with industry trends and changes to search engine algorithms, and adjust your strategies accordingly

- Prepare and conduct keyword research and content analysis for web optimisation
- Identify gaps and execute SEO growth through competitor analysis and keyword opportunities
- Partner with the editorial and web teams providing recommendations for organic success
- Plan, develop and implement SEO strategies to achieve organic goals
- Work with the development team to ensure website content is optimised for search engines and user experience
- Monitor and report on search engine rankings, organic traffic, and insights on trends
- Provide regular reporting and updates on performance to stakeholders, creating dashboards
- Develop automations to improve performance and drive efficiencies
- Manage internal tools and develop processes used for optimisation
- Collaboration with internal teams to develop high-performing marketing campaigns
- Take the initiative and spot opportunities for improvements and insights

Our take
Starling started life focused on consumer banking, it has since found most of its success by competing in the business banking space. Its caught up with Tide and beaten the likes of Monzo and Revolut to a more complete offering for businesses.
This progress resulted in the company receiving a £100M grant in April 2019 from a body created to boost competition in SME banking, which it has used to accelerate building a full suite of digital banking products: intelligent forecasting tools, and digitally-enabled relationship management functions, as well as lending products. Since then, it has gone on to raise significant rounds of funding with leading investors such as Goldman Sachs.
As well as continuing to expand in the UK, its expanding in Europe. And its imminently launching an international bank in Dublin, which has allowed it to offer its current account across the European Union post-Brexit
Banking for small businesses has historically been ignored, even though the experience is poor. Starling is in tune with knowing what its customers want, and continues to build out its range of third-party products within its banking app thanks to support from its open API. Having achieved profitability, it currently has 26 integrations, including Xero, but that figure continues to grow.
