Who you are

Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required, Master’s or PhD a plus
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in computer architecture or quantum systems
Experience working the full system lifecycle including development, deployment and operations
Experience decomposing system-level requirements into program features
Working knowledge and skills in Python and C++/Rust
Experience with cloud computing platforms, including one of Azure, GCP or AWS
While not a requirement, understanding of present day quantum computers is a big plus
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a changing work environment

What the job involves

We are seeking a Quantum Software Architect to oversee the development of the software stack that controls our quantum computer systems
This individual will work closely with the Director of Software, the CTO, stakeholders and domain experts across the company to build a long-term vision for how our software should operate in order to satisfy the needs of customers, system operators, and internal research teams
The role includes the responsibility for leading technical roadmap planning, helping select appropriate technologies, and guiding and reviewing new feature development to ensure alignment with the long-term vision
To be successful, this individual will need to develop a complete understanding of the journey a quantum circuit takes from customer-facing libraries and APIs down to the execution of commands on our quantum hardware
This candidate will be expected to lead the evolution of our quantum computer from an architecture supporting simple job execution to one capable of executing dynamic, quantum-error-corrected circuits
Lead and mentor a team of domain experts
Drive collaboration between product and engineering to set the technical direction and strategy of our software platform
Drive architectural decisions, plans, goals, and strategies weighing short-term trade-offs against long-term commitments on our software stack
Align standards, frameworks, and security with overall business and technology strategies

Our take

Quantum computers are largely defined by their qubit type and coherence times. Atom Computing creates spin qubits by using the neutral atom Strontium-87, which, in one of its nuclear spin states, can coherently remain in that state for a very long time, allowing computers to run deeper quantum circuits.

Qubits are fragile and susceptible to errors, but the company’s unique system yields a record-setting coherence time of 40 seconds which is monumentally faster than other systems, allowing more time for quantum error correction research to detect and correct errors without completely degrading purposeful computation.

The company raised $60 million of capital in its 2022 Series B round, and is well positioned to provide the leading quantum computing power behind life-changing breakthroughs.
