Role
Who you are
- Genuinely hands-on - you're comfortable owning support end-to-end across all levels, from basic helpdesk to complex technical issues, without drawing lines around what's 'your' problem. Everything else in this role is built on top of that
- Demonstrated ability to think critically, challenge assumptions, prioritise high-value work, and propose better alternatives. Not just execute
- Proven experience building and maintaining automations using tools like Okta Workflows, n8n, Tines, Make or similar, with real examples you can speak to
- Active, hands-on use of AI tools (LLMs, AI-assisted workflows, and similar) to meaningfully improve the quality and speed of your work. This is a baseline expectation, not a nice-to-have
- Strong understanding of macOS and Apple device management (MDM/DEP)
- Prior experience with Okta, Google Workspace is required
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and Terraform is a plus, particularly in the context of infrastructure-as-code
- Knowledge of scripting languages or our tech stack (Golang, Python, Docker, k8s) is a plus, but not a requirement
- Excellent communication and task management skills
- Based in or willing to relocate to Berlin
- We’re an English-speaking team, German language skills are a definite plus
What the job involves
- As a Senior Engineer, you'll be a core part of a small, high-ownership TechOps function at Upvest. This is not an execution-only role. You're expected to bring ideas, challenge assumptions, flag risks early, and operate with a high degree of autonomy
- You are trusted to make senior-level decisions independently across prioritisation, vendor conversations, and urgent matters. TechOps owns most internal technologies, including endpoints and SaaS, and partners with every business unit to drive automation, improve processes, and bring emerging technologies into the organisation where they add real value
- Owning our core internal IT stack (i.e. Okta, Google Workspace, Slack, etc), user lifecycle management and security controls in close collaboration with our Security team
- Managing our Mac laptop fleet, zero-touch DEP/MDM device deployments, and ensuring company endpoints meet the company’s security standards
- Acting as a trusted advisor to teams: evaluating, challenging, and prioritising tooling requests rather than simply fulfilling them
- Continuously looking for ways to automate and improve processes across TechOps and every department we support, and taking ownership of seeing those improvements through
- Actively leveraging AI tools in your daily work to raise the quality and speed of your output, and helping the broader team do the same
- Collaborating with the Security team on AI tool governance and how LLMs connect to internal systems, ensuring safe and controlled adoption
- Participating in response activities when a security event occurs

Upvest is a fintech startup that empowers financial services companies to provide their customers with access to a full range of financial assets, including stocks, ETFs and crypto products. Upvest's investment API integrates seamlessly with its customers existing systems and is designed to scale easily, freeing companies from the need to develop their own brokerage and custody infrastructure from scratch.
As one of the few companies in Germany that is licensed for both the custody of traditional securities and crypto, Upvest is able to provide its services across Europe. Its solution has been readily adopted by some major players in the space including Ginmon, Vivid and ABN AMRO.
Upvest is backed by a number of Europe's largest tech VCs (Earlybird, Notion Capital, Partech, HV Capital, ABN AMRO Ventures) alongside American investment monolith BlackRock. In 2023, it closed a VC investment round, which the company has claimed is one of the largest in the German fintech arena. This was followed up by an impressive Series C at the end of 2024, which is being used to grow its team, enhance its product and cement its presence in the UK.
