Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of experience in a US financial regulatory agency or relevant law firm practice group
- Working knowledge of the FinTech and/or payment industry and the applicable laws and regulations
- An analytical thinker who can monitor and advise on relevant regulations required to ensure controlled and sustainable growth
- Highly organized with an exceptional sense of initiative, self-motivation, and collaboration that will add value to a fast-growing business
- This role is based out of either our San Francisco or New York office
- This is a full-time position with the ability to work a minimum of 40 hours/week, including a minimum of three days per week in-office
- California or New York Bar membership preferred, US state bar membership in good standing required
What the job involves
- Adyen is seeking a Regulatory Counsel with a passion for payments and banking regulation. In this role, you’ll be a trusted advisor to our compliance, risk, legal and business partners on applicable domestic regulations. You will work closely on regulatory exam management and interface extensively with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve. In this role, you will contribute more broadly to other regulatory matters as well. We wear many hats around here. This is a full-time role for a candidate based in either New York or San Francisco and will report to the Head of North America Regulatory
- Coordinate interactions with regulators, including but not limited to: assisting in providing oversight for supervisory examinations and be a central contact for regulators
- Coordinate and manage events related to examinations and on-going monitoring, including monitoring requested data aggregation and coordinating and attending regulatory meetings with internal stakeholders
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide guidance on regulatory matters and continually enhance the regulatory relations framework to identify, assess, control, and monitor regulatory communication
- Advise internal business lines on regulatory obligations
- Collaborate with global compliance teams to promote and ensure compliance with US regulatory obligations
- Manage remediation plans for any external audits or regulatory exams

Adyen competes with large players like PayPal, as well as outsized startups like Stripe, to power payments and provide other infrastructure to conduct digital transactions. Disrupters in the field have been buoyed by a strong rise in eCommerce activity, where some or all of a transaction by a customer is made either online or by mobile.
Adyen has been one of the companies riding the wave by helping to reduce the friction between a company choosing to take payments online, and actually being able to do it. That can take multiple steps and agreements across numerous countries — Adyen’s pitch is that it essentially handles all of it in the backend as a service for its users. Notable partners have included Autocanteen, a touchless self-checkout solution for the hospitality industry, and BILL, a small business-focused fintech platform.
